I read that the news release due in an hour will most likely have negative effect on UJ which might pull GJ down with it before completing the retraction, anybody got any insight on that?
At 8:30 a.m. we will have a few things coming out at the same time. First one is Canadian Building Permits. You can use 5% trigger here. If it comes out at 6.0% or higher, then it would be a sell signal on USD/CAD, looking for about 35 pips of move in the first hour of the report. If it comes out at -4.0% or more negative, it would be a buy signal on USD/CAD, and I would be looking for 35 pips move (or more) in the first hour of the report.

Also at 8:30 a.m. we will have U.S. Initial Jobless claims coming out which is coming out right before the Friday's U.S. Non-Farm Payroll so we may get another overreacting situation. It is expected to come out at 360K. If it comes out at 370K or higher, it would be a sell signal on USD/JPY. If it comes out at 345 K or lower, it would be a buy signal on USD/JPY. I would expect a solid 35 to 40 pips price action on this report.

malcolm... there is no such thing as spinning top doji. it's either a DOJI, which means that open price = close price (or within a few pips), or a SPINNING TOP (bottom) which means that the real body is very small and the shadows are quite large relative to the body. what i see on h4 and h1 charts is a confirmed spinning top (next candle closed below).
i said i studied candlesticks...
if you want to find out more, the best book out there is steve nison's "japanese candlestick charting techniques".

I think I need to buy Steve's book and just hit myself over the head with it.

That happens for everybody.Try not to lose your nerves and stay calm. Stress is not good for your heart ... You know ... try to enjoy your trading not to press yourself with regretting your mistakes. It's done. Try to learn a lesson from that and not to repeat it again anymore. That is it.
