i was not gonna trade this report since it's seems not a big mover (min chart), but when i saw ur charts seems interesting.

110 Pip daily range between the high and low with a 37 pip drop at the announcement. The ppi report seemed to be on the up side yet little increase.
Shouldn't it read 2006, but very interesting information, and quite a big mover indeed

something I'd like to point out about UK news.

From my observation, UK news peak out about 6~7AM EST; ie, it takes about 2-3 hours to work out. Thats what I did sometime last September on UK GDP.

My 1M historic charts show only 30 minutes after the news; perhaps we should trade longer.

I am trying to understand about the concensus figure for PPI - If it comes out as expected will it be bad for the pound? Inflation higher?

The estimate was -0.7, and actual came out -0.1.
It should be GBP positive. Perhaps the reason for the GBP short was that it confirmed a no rate hike come december. I trully forgot the real details back here (though I was closely observing UK news...)...

These depends...

Since we already seen a rate hike a week ago, expect NO rate hike next month. So I dont see a good/bad PPI later would drive GBPUSD violently (unless of course the result is WAY far out).

BTW. BOE is more interested in CPI than PPI. Some sectors are considering a huge increase in CPI and BOE is duty bound to control inflation the hard way... if CPI comes out high, expect large movement.

Yup, we just went through a last-minute surprise rate hike so expect no modification for the next meeting. Moreover, the UK PPI is not a market shaker by any means, so... so there's no news trade today in my opinion.

PPI is the producer price index, which measures prices that local producers and manufacturers have to pay for their raw materials. Prices that they pay for raw materials is called PPI Input. The prices for ready products that they deliver to wholesalers are called PPI output. PPI output has more focus than PPI input, though both indicators are somewhat important. The number is supposed to come out positive meaning a long for gbpusd which is the current trend.

ALL UK numbers came out GBP negative but GBPUSD is still climbing up.
Its not the numbers that is supporting GBP right now, but something else.

GBP and all GBP crosses (GBPJPY and GBPCHF) have been moving north since London opened up. This market just wants to head north regardless of news. Im looking to buy dips today.
