News impact in forex - Need calendar data for my indicator 6 replies
DislikedThanks to all esp. Derk for making and sharing this great indicator. I apply this indicator on G/J & A/U charts and find that it display non matching time variance for the news event with almost identical time released. The JPY is correct but not for the GBP and AUD. Can anyone pls advise me what could be the possible reason that cause this minor tech issue here?Ignored

You said "non matching time variance"; I presume you simply mean that the times are not matching..(?)
Perhaps Merlin can speak to this. It is not a problem with the FFCal indicator...
On the other hand, if you were speaking to a different problem, and I have misunderstood, please clarify....
Thank you and happy trading,

DislikedYeap...you understood me correctly. It was the time differences for the 3 events which released almost at the same time (time gap vary from 10 to 40 minutes). But display different time counting for the "since" and "until" of the events with time gap about 10 hours.
Maybe this is kind of occasional case that happen when I newly download and apply the indicator on my charts...If I come across this "bug" again... i will post it here... But would it be my computer time is GMT+8, MT is GMT+1 and the indicator is using GMT, causing complications?
But so far it works well and good...
Btw, is there any way I can modify the GMT time to GMT+1 for the indicator to match with my MT? I have been playing around with MT language but still have not got a good hand on it yet (I'm an alien when comes to understand programming language but have not given up on trying yet...still learning minor modifications on existing simple indicator and EA and testing...and wonder when I will create one and share it in the forum...)
Thanks Derk.
Have a great holiday and Happy New Year 2008! For those who celebrate Christmas, wishing you a Merry Christmas!

DislikedFFCal calls a windows DLL to get the local timezone information it uses to be able to tell you how many minutes until news, your-time. I am not sure what you mean by "modify the GMT time to GMT+1 for the indicator to match with my MT". Your MT server is at GMT+1 and you are at GMT+8, so what does it have to do with GMT?
The best thing for you to do when you see a discrepancy, is to check the web page where FFCal gets its info:
http://www.forexfactory.com/ff_calendar_thisweek.xml
Find the event in question and see if they time that is posted is correct (matching the Calendar page). When I looked, it was not. If you also find that this data page is wrong (relative to their Calendar), then I will need to write to Merlin and ask that he check into why there are so many mistakes lately.

DislikedI have checked FF Calendar page against the given site and find no discrepancy appeared. So, to identify the causes that one event appear correct but another not, what is the next diagnosis I should perform?
What I was trying to ask about "to modify GMT time..." is the indicator appear one hour late as compare to my MT trading platform. It would be nice if I can synchronize the time between them. I believe Alpari MT platform is default setting for time and cant be modified or no?Ignored
DislikedServer time cannot be modified in MT4. If FFCal is one hour off in its reports, then I would guess something is wrong with daylight savings time. Where are you? Does your computer switch to DST and back correctly and at the right date? FFCal just goes off of a DLL which consults your computers settings.
Regarding the diagnostics on the other thing... this is tough. I cannot think of any reason it would do this. Again, where are you located? Maybe if I get some time soon I can watch it on your screen or something...

DislikedThanks Derk & appreciate your time spent here. I'm from Malaysia. I will try the method suggested i.e. DST in my computer settings etc... and see if after making changes the time will synchronize.
I will see how the indicator will perform after a period of time and whether it happens only on certain currencies during certain times..as it is relatively new to me still.
Have a good holiday and Merry Christmas (if you celebrate Christmas).Ignored
DislikedHi there to all,
thanks Derek for this great indicator! I just installed it and am testing it. Will let you all know of the results.
Well, I know you already discussed to some level but still - having also the results displayed would be great. My thinking of how it would have to be programmed:
1. when news are published FF publishes them to XML (this will not cause any high traffic problems...)
2. in EA, just after the news - EA starts to check xml if the actual news result is already published - if so, then it reloads the xml file and displays the results
For EA to check if news results are already published it could just check the previous and current xml file size and if it different it would load it - this would not cause any big traffic.
And also - just after the news are published people already do a lot of "refreshes" on their internet pages so at FF probably already is a bigger traffic during the beginning of a news...
I just noticed that maybe past vertical lines are not correct... Shifted by one hour... Will check again and let you know if it is working or not.
Otherwise - "THE BEST INDICATOR EVER!"
