I was just wondering how many people use more than one monitor to trade with? I think I need at least 2. I hate switching back and forth between time frames. And can I rig my computer to have two monitors, or do I need to buy a new computer? I would really like to have 3 monitors that would be cool then I would look like those guys in the advertisements!

yeah you can rig your current computer to do as many monitors as you would like. you first need to get a dual monitor graphics card for your computer. maybe someone else can suggest a good one..

Merlin you disappoint me. i would have surely guessed you used 3 monitors. Oh well I guess monitors aren't the key to success in forex.

man im just an old school programmer, i wouldnt know what to do with two monitors!

it may not be the key to success but ive heard a lot of traders say the dual setup helps them quite a bit, especially very active traders..

Duals help if you want to scan seperate pairs quickly or two time frames. I like duals. I haven't been able to concentrate hard enough for triples.

If your using XP, you can actually support 12 monitors, I think....it might be 19. Whatever! It's a whole bunch either way. Most home PC's won't have the gigabytes of ram needed to divy up resources like that. Mac's will support two monitors on a home computer without additional hardware.

3 or more monitors is a great way to impress your friends and convince your wife that Forex trading is much harder than it really is!

I only use an old fashioned 14" traditional monitor.

I wanted to use a dual 17" system, but all of a sudden, I asked myself, and what would this do to me?? hmmm, nothing for the time being, I am still beginning, learning and everything is still quite, so I don't really need them now.

While still very early in my Forex learning curve, but a visual person all the same, I need to see before I grasp [and not even then] a concept, I have found muiltiple screens to be of great assistance.
I can see the differences in time frames at a glance, run the same chart with different indicators at the same time and watch what unfolds. Monitoring more than one currency pair and watching how they react in different circumstances [know your enemy] gives you an incite to their personalities[who said I was obssessed].
I believe setting up multiple screens is a worthwhile exercise even for a PC challenged individual like myself.
As long as you don't have an intergrated video card (my understanding is that this set up won't work with integrated video card) and you have free slots a dual head card (of the opposite type) can be added to run in conjunction with your existing video card to give a triple screen set up. Alternately you can remove the existing single head video card and add 2 dual head video cards to give a 4 screen set up. As long as you use different types of cards AGP or PCI single or dual head your motherboard should recognise the different cards and allow a muiltiple screen set up. Both Sec/H monitors and these dual cards seem to be fairly easy to obtain. Gamers appear to use these cards and when a new or faster model comes out they up grade. For our application these cards don't need to work at warp speed to be useful. If they were too fast we would end up with our data before it happened and there would be no need for all this learning curve that we are going through [I can but dream]. For a fairly minimal cost a pretty efficent system can be set up.

Can I afford not to have it?

If the first answer is 'yes' and the second 'no', then go ahead.

Realised I made a mistake on the answers. Please allow me to use the common excuse: English is not my native language.

I use a Dell Dimension with two monitors. I told Dell when ordering the computer that I want to have two monitors and they set it up before shipping it to me. Having two monitors has been a real blessing, no more clicking back and forth between my broker screens and my charts.

for those of you who are not ready for two screens most computers today will allow you to hook up a small tv as a second monitor. the res is not great but it works. i used a tv as a second monitor for years.

Does size matter? Is bigger necessarily better?

Who has they mutha of all setups? And how many screens do you watch at once?

OK mine is a 19" TFT widescreen, although I have my trusty ole 19" CRT "radiation blaster" as a backup!

If you stack 'em up maybe you can double up to 28"

If this is possible, I think we will need 4 monitors of 14" each and not only 2.
