Indicators - Histograms + One on the other

Is it possible to create Histograms for any of the indicators?

Also is it possible to put one indicator onto another in the same window?

Good question. I've seen some pretty amazing things done by the code jockeys in this forum. Histograms for just about any indicator would probably be fairly straightforward.

Hint: Drag and drop.

This only works with some of the pre-packaged indicators that come with your platform. Only these few allow you to apply them to another indicator. But don't get confused. These original indicators can be applied against ANY indicator, including custom indicators already on your chart.

So, say you have a 14 RSI on your chart already. Now you want the 5 EMA of that RSI. You highlight the Moving Average indicator in your navigation tree and drag it to the RSI portion of the chart, and release. Now the properties window pops up. THIS IS THE CRITICAL STEP. Adjust the settings however you want, but in the "Apply to" drop down box you need to select:
"Previous indicator's data" (presumining the RSI was the last indicator you added to your chart). There is another option, to apply to "First indicator's data". That works similarly.

If the indicator you select does not have the "Apply to" drop down box, you will not be able to have it calculate against another indicator.

There are a couple of things to remember with indicators that work like this. You have to keep track of the order you are applying indicators so that you know what value your indicator is going to calculate against. The "apply to" will never specifically name the indicator you can calculate from.

The other thing that is possible, is to have multiples of the same indicator, with different parameter settings, in the same indicator window. This applies to ALL indicators on your workstation, including any custom ones you might download.

So, in this second case, you would apply your indicator with the first set of parameters. Then you would select the same indicator again, drag and drop it to the same indicator window where you see your first application. The parameter window will pop up allowing you to make your settings, and press "ok". Now the second set of indicator settings is overlayed on the first. These two are both independent of each other, but you can see them together. Obviously you'll probably want to adjust colors or line types to be able to differentiate between the two (or more) applications of the indicators in this indicator window.

I'm trying to give you as much detail on this as possible without having to attach screen shots (because I'm being lazy)... so this has gotten pretty wordy. But I hope this is clear enough for you to give you a go at it. Once you've done both types of additions a few times it will be very clear to you. It isn't difficult to do, just a bit confusing to explain. But be sure you are giving proper attention and planning to the order in applying the case of an indicator based on data from another indicator. There can be big differences when selecting "Previous indicator's data" and "First indicator's data". It is easy to make a mistake there without realizing what you have done.
