Expert Advisors Tutorial.

Hello Forexfactory

Is there any tutorial to use EA to trade automatic with Metatrader 4, i have a 500$ demo account!. I tried a lot but no one works what did i do wrong?
I doubleclick on it in Metatrader and the system name is shown in rhe right up of the chart, but dont trade!
pls help

Hi sentaco,

Please keep your money in the bank. Do not use an EA until you can be profitable trading on your own. There is no EA out there that works all the time. You will always have to use your own trading skills to be profitable. This is a business and like any business it takes a lot of work to make it happen. Good luck, Scott

I mis understood your post. Here is the answer you seek...

Ok. I will list the steps and you can see if yours are correct.

1. close MT4
2. right click on start button left corner. left click on explore.
3. Scroll down until you find program files and click on the + sign.
4. scroll down until you find your broker MT4 folder and click on the + sign
5. here in the experts folder is where you place your EA. (not in the indicator folder)
6. Start your MT4 program back up.
7. Make sure you Navigator window is open on the left side, below the currency prices.
8. scroll thru the navagtor until you find your EA.
9. Drag that EA into your chart window.
10. Right click in your chart window and select Expert Advisors and then select properties.
10. this will bring up the menu of settings.
11. You can adjust the settings to any that you have found in this thread or use your own.
12. select the common tab and make sure the Allow Live Trading is selected
13. press ok.
14. go to the top of the program and make sure that the menu tab for Expert Advisors shows a green arrow and not a red x. if the red x is present, just press the tab and it will go green.
15. You should now have a smiley face in the right hand corner of your screen.

Please ignore the steps you already know. I have no idea what your level is...

Hi All,
Maybe someone here can help me with being able to attach an indicator to a MetaTrader chart. Sounds simple enough, but, I have download several Indicators to my Custom Indicator Folder. When I go to open the Navigator the file is not there. The files I'm downloading have the mq4 extension. I'm completely lost as how to move these files into the Navigator. I have been downloading a file and compiling, but nothing appears.
Suggestions are greatly appreciated.

You have to compile the ea first!

In your EA folder, double click on the EA you want, then the program editor pops up.

You have to then click "compile" at the top. Once it is finished close it and it'll be in the Navigator.

Hi All

Im new to MT4 and am having problems with an EA i want to use, its set to place pending orders at 00:00 gmt, i am at work so i can not see what happends at this time, it looks to me (on the chart i have attached) that it placed the long order(s) but not the short - the orders on the short are just little short lines, when i got home the short orders should have been filled and then stoped out but there has been no draw down on the account. i have the looked at properties and have selected both long and short orders. any help would be fantastic!

I ran into the same thing. There's probably a "better" way to do this but I did find success by doing the following.

First, open the MetaEditor and confirm that you can find the EA you want to use. It should be there. If not, doubleclick on it from your file folder.

Next, open a NEW EA so as to be creating one from scratch. Give it a name appropriate for the EA you really want to use, even though it's a new "blank" EA.

Now, copy the contents of your preferred EA and paste it over the contents of the NEW EA. Compile and you're good to go.

i have done as per instruction .. but at the navigator .. my EA is coloured in grey whereas another EAs are coloured .. is that a problem ?
