Personally, what do you think is the best leading indicator? (You pick the time frame and indicator to go with it).

My best indicator is my dome when i'm looking at a 5 min chart of the EUR/USD.

No I didn't. Pivots CCI RSI and everything else lags. Price is always right. Are pivots etc etc always right?

There are useful to a certain extent, just not leading.

Since my last post on this thread was deleted for telling the truth, I'll say it again, Suntrader is completely right. NOTHING LEADS PRICE. Pivot points mean nothing until the price crosses or rejects the pivot, until then they are only 'areas of interest'. CCI is only the deviation of a moving average from the price, it predicts nothing. Sorry to bang on about this like a moaning old fart, but newbies would save alot of time & pain if other people didn't obfusicate the truth with their 'leading indicator' fantasies.
The breaking of a wave cannot explain the whole sea.

Well in actuality there is no "leading' indicator but price itself gives the most information. Not some derivative. Because something give better probabilities than something else does not make it "leading".

Economists even use the expression Leading Economic Indicator. But how can anything be leading if it leads some of the times and other times not?

When you refer to price as a leading indicator I assume that you mean you can use the price as a lead to predict future market movements and when you undermine the effect of other indicators because they are sometimes right it probably means that you can predict the future movements of the market 100% right with the help of price. Is this what you are trying to say?

I might be off track here, but when I hear or use the phrase 'price is the best indicator of price' I am understanding that all technical indicators lag price for the simple reason that they are derived from price.

So in order to find an 'indicator' that leads price one must think outside of the technical box. Hence Bemac's comments a few posts back.

Fibonacciists, I believe, would say Fibs are a leading indicator of price action/reaction. Channelists would say that resistance lines can predict price action. But of course none say 100 %. Chartists would say the same about price patterns.

This brings us to fundamentalists who might look at the long term fiscal positioning of a country and make a prediction on price... long term. (not talking about 'video game trading' of news releases here).

Thanks Lou. In my opinion something (whether fundamental or technical) can be called an indicator that helps me to understand the market movements. Therefore a leading indicator is the one that predicts the market movements in advance. By this definition in mind price is NOT a leading indicator.

On the other hand some of tech. or fund. indicators are more successful than the others in predicting the future price movements. That's why many of us consider them leading indicators. However, none of them are perfect and that's why the search for Holy Grail continues.

As I have said before. just because something predicts price in the future better than something else, does not make it leading. Just better odds.
