Big jump up in GBPJPY this morning so whilst prices stay over 236 will be looking to take longs.

I was just curious about your stop loss strategy...is it 1000 pips per trade or 1000 pips total drawdown amongst all trades?

And, did these trades from last week ever get closed or are they still open?

Hi Ryan,

Yes, stop loss is 1000 pips per trade. Haven't had one hit yet but I'm under no illusion and know that stop losses will get hit at some point.

Over the last 6 weeks I've averaged 197 pips per trading day in closed trades and I would back myself to average over 100 long term. That means that I would cover myself for one stop loss being hit every two weeks at worst.

The average winning trade has stayed constant at 20 pips per trade which again means that an average of 50 wins covers a loss. With over 350 wins under my belt, I have room for at least 7 stop losses to be hit and still be in overall profit.

Due to the fact that I compound and always take a new trade at 1% of my account balance, when an old stop loss is hit, more often than not it will be a week or more old. The effect of this s/l being hit has less effect on my overall account balance. For example, if my balance is 20% higher than when I took the trade, although it stays 1000 pips, the loss will have a lesser impact.

If I were trading a larger account I'd be happier to be taking 0.5% per trade.

Oh yeah, those positions are still open. What I do is look at the market now and continue taking pips and basically forget those until they get back into range (if they do).
