I think it may be a blessing in disguise. I manually backtested last December and January. December was a disaster, there was a little profit but most would have been taken by the spread (or commission if you use an ECN). January was a lot better, but still not as good as usual. Of course your results may vary depending on exactly how you are trading, but I think most traders will agree that over December/January the markets are ranging a lot more (bankers are away skiing
In fact, that's one of the reasons that I'm so interested in the EA, because a single currency in December will probably not provide a lot of good opportunities, but by working with a lot of currencies the EA may still be able to find a lot of decent moves - and that's also why I'm so interested in having a good non-ranging filter, so that the EA doesn't get slaughtered by the December ranging markets....
