QuoteDislikedI knew nothing of basic knowledge in chart analysis for example. Like that pdf that was posted about the peaks and troughs....
Very annoying to see that this stuff is what I should have known first before starting to practice the rainbow.
DislikedHi PaleRainbow,
I get the feeling, from the thread, the eBook and questions that have been answered, that technical analysis may be of some use, but may actually hinder you as well. I think some basic TA can be useful. Such as support/resistance. Basically, very simple TA (which is not TA at all really). [Not knocking your Peak/Trough contribution Ed, very interesting read, was actually trying to spot examples of it today. M.]
I am taking LTs preachings to heart as well as I can. By doing this I have to try and ignore a lot of stuff I have read before. I am finding scalping very different to general price action and longer TFs.
This is only my second day practicing with the rainbow and already I can see an improvement. The reason for this? LTs advice of concentrating on one pair and only the Rainbow.
As I mentioned in a previous post, I am also making one hell of a lot of trades. This forces me to concentrate [although, it's not been confirmed by anyone that doing this is actually a good thing ]. I am noting down the pips for reference but am not trying to make a consistent number of pips, yet.
If I may quote LT:
"If you can learn to follow the Flame or price action, you will be many steps ahead of the game because price is faster than anything available for us. You may have heard the saying, "The only truth is the current price"... Once you accept this, your job as a scalper will become many times easier... This means ignoring news, opinions, and personal biases etc..."
I don't watch TV either. So we are both off to a good start. Hey, I don't even know what the NFP report is (seriously!). I do know that I should be cautious of its release though. The reason I don't know what it is, is that I don't need to know. If I did. I would. It's all in the price already!
Following the Rainbow, PaleRainbow...

DislikedJudging from everyones' screenshots, OandA time is dependant on where you live. I live in GMT area and it is in GMT for me. Searched around but can't figure/find out to confirm this. Can anyone atest to this? It is helpful to know when people post screenshots.
Also, is it common for OandA to freeze (charts updating, not application crash) after running for a while. I've never used OandA for charting and so have not had it open for any length of time. I have to re-connect every couple of hours. End up losing my pretty charts (usually have four open at once). I don't believe it is my connection - all other applications running fine. I am thinking it is the memory buffer allocated to the Java platform - the Rainbow must put it under some strain - 27 MAs.
What are people experiencing? Do I have to live with this?

QuoteDislikedI loved the biography of Jesse Livermore who talk about tape-reading and his success and mistakes with it. Because its so old and classic.

DislikedI have the same problem with Oanda. I have contacted Oanda's support. They first suggested to increase Java memory heap size which did not help. Then they suggested to decrease the resolution of my monitor. I won't do that. Officially, multiple charts are not supported by Oanda FXTrade.
I do not maximize the windows and it somehow works but still need to restart the platform from time to time.
I have tried Ninja which is also crashing. Besides, when I load chart, it does not come with history. I need to wait till the history builds so that the MA's can be calculated.
Is there any free and reliable alternative capable of 5/30 sec. charts?Ignored

DislikedPentium 4 2.8 with 1Gb RAM. Not too slow - certainly not bad enough to warrant OandA to stall every couple of hours.
Will give the Web-based one a shot again.Ignored
DislikedThanks Nathan.
I think I will invest in some RAM at least. The multiple windows, bits of software, etc used in trading make even a half-decent set-up struggle.
With windows crashiness and those eye-candy Mac screenshots you keep feeding us I believe there may be a Mac convertee in the midst...
