Why doesn't anyone use line graphs?

Hi Nshutts

The reason no-one uses line graphs is because they only show the closing price in any one session where as a candle or bar chart will show you the open, close, high and low so you are only seeing a quarter of the information of a candlestick or a bar chart. For example if you are looking at a daily chart over lets say 4 months a line chart can only show you the price at end of play each day, you have no idea what happened in between. I would recomend reading up on candlesticks and/or bar charts and you will be amazed how much information they give.

Actually not everyone doesn't use line charts .. but most intraday traders use bar and candle charts as they feel they are missing something ... have a look here for an example of a full time trader who uses line charts ...

Some believe the closing price is the most important. I do see benefits of using line charts for a longer term perspective

Here is one way I reckon one could use line charts. This is a weekly tf with channel lines. Red arrow indicates market sentiment. One could scale down in tf and only trade in the direction of the red arrows..

I left everything the same and stepped down to the daily bar chart. Each weekly signal would have make some very nice profits

It would be like using standard 1 period SMA/EMA on closing price

imo, its beter to watch bar or candlestick chart as you can see more things regarding price action between open-close period

you can train yourselv to see those patterns even without indicator or line chart

Well, I use line graphs because I can trade without fear or hesitation when I aim for rebound from sudden fall.

I think line graphs can make can sometimes make it easier to see trends.. but I have never used them to trade with.

now THAT is ugly. How can you even look at that chart for more than 1 sec ?
