I am running a visual test right now on 1H TF. It is really hard to look at. So much money is left there on the floor or lost without good cause.
From what I see there, we loose on sells going bad most of the time. A trailing stop only on sells would do the magic I guess. Furthermore a rather radical idea would call for orders not being closed on the next reverse dot. The latter idea is not yet ripe, but my test of GBPJPY seems to show that this would prevent especially the rest of the buy orders to be sent to oblivion. 1H is much harder to handle, but could be very profitable.

What amazes me also is the velocity in which you are able to finish massive rows of tests. Are you using multiple computers? Or are you the owner of "Deep Thought", the computer to calculate the answer to the question of life, the universe and everything??

I will continue now, but I guess that there is a lot more to the concept than meets the test.
(And it is not too shabby on 4H at ALL!)

Nah just 1. I find it's taking A LOT OF TIME heh. However, just imagine if I did this by hand, this is 6 months worth of data for 8 pairs HOLY MOLY I would finish in the year 2037 (and of course by then, well you know). This MT4 strategy tester is just the coolest thing.

OK, I’m halfway done and realizing that testing the small values is a waste of time on these time frames, especially that the ones I’ve got left are the biggies. So I’m posting half results here, and will only continue to test starting at 200 instead of 15.

I must admit, once again I'm surprised at the results. To me, these are HUGE trailing stops (130 and 350). Maybe it's because I'm used to shorter time frames?

Anyway, as you can see, we can manage to scrape off yet a few more pips, but I hope to get more impressive pippage with the 4 last pairs cause +2, 0, +7, +4 is nothing to write home about (or to update the expression to 2007 “to email home about” ) We can also observe the same "stalling" effect that I got the the stop loss testing (gray).

yes, exactly. I attach the ea, and set parameters to either filter true or filter false (based on whatever findings you have) and change the number at the bottom (you only need to do this once). If you're so inclined, you can also specify SL, TP and trailing stops. I can't tell you which is best, it depends on the TF you're using and other factors. What I WILL be able to tell in a few hours is the the optimum combination of SL, trailing stop and TPs for the TFs I have pinpointed to be best for this strategy (long term).

Excellent results so far, you guys doing all the hard work

I must say I would be quite happy with results so far considering I can slap the autobots on a vps server and have them "computing" away for me hehe
Considering though Awesome from the supernova thread racked up 900+ pips in a week means I would still trade "by hand" as well.

Now to figure out this drawdown business

I am "watching" a test on daily TF. This is rather strange. Just an example: Buy at 205.89 ... closed at 206.62. Sounds nice? Well, it is complete nonsense: The price reached 209.82, the following retracement was clear and "harsh". But it takes 300 pips net to let the EA stop the horror. Only enter into the next: At 206.61 a Sell is entered and consequently is lost at 207.39. Somehow there is "something rotten in the state of Testmark". I will find out what it is.

There is sooo much potential. But as the 4H timeframe seems to be under control, why not start there and then test parallel with the other TFs.

OK... I will stay around until the market opens in 50 min.! Then the bed is calling!

Here are the results for the trailing stops in 2 tables. The 1st one has 4 pairs and I tested each and every 26 possible trailing stops. The lower ones were a waste of time, so I started higher for the 2nd table.

So for the first one, we have tiny extra pips of 2, 0, 6, and 3

The second one has a bit better results. This time I kinda poked around to get a feel for the “zone” then investigated further in the viscinity of those points.

For these 4 pairs, we steal extra pips in the order of 5, 15, 9 and 28.

So all in all we can extricate a total of 68 pips by using trailing stops.

Next I checked to see if the combination SL + trailing (only for 2 pairs, the others not being influenced by SLs) would have some sort of interference (for gbpjpy and nzdjpy), but everything’s ok, so we can add both SL + trailing and get those extra pips (I just updated the SL testing table with xtra pips added at the bottom). So we can get an extra 19 and 25 pips for gbpjpy and nzdjpy respectively by combining the SLs. This means a total of 112 extra pips/mth if using SL and trailings. Not bad heh.

So here's my setup for next week:

(notice that the average monthly pips just went up to 2060 that's close to 2k/mth on mini lots. I'll let you do the math for standard lots

Don’t have the time to start testing TPs and tomorrow I want to have a look at what I mentioned earlier about taking all the trades and intermingling them in correct time sequence to monitor the balance and see what initial capital using mini and standard is required in order not to EXPLODE one’s account + maximize profits (don’t you just like the sound of that Maximize Profits). I think I’ll make myself a poster and stick on the wall right in front of me

And then I’m thinking (OH NO!) that I’ll need to test DMI variables (7, 10) and maybe fool around with MOM (not my ‘ma !) and then I also need to start doing some tests on DA SHORTER TIME FRAMES cause watching them 4H won’t be extra mega exciting, so I’ll need some shorties to keep me busy hehehhe (and blow that account of course which will render all my efforts fruitless hehehhhe).

This is really amazing and I would say completely worth the effort. Thank you very much for that. It was a nice weekend - I mean that with all honesty.
Let us look into the "little flaws" that may need to be ironed out off the EAs to make them better (than alright).

Yup, that's the point we've reached. No more TV, no more Internet. Now we're the generation watching backtest graphs (don't you find it hurts your eyes tho, seriously, I got all totally crossed eye last week trying to "watch" in real time)

Just wouldn't be practical for me to leave my pc running 24/7 and I don't really like the idea of it. VPS will have 99.9% uptime (or so they say) and I can go on holiday without worrying that my house has caught fire with the electric going 24/7 lol There are alot of advantages but these are a few at the top of my head
