Well the idea was a short from 1.18, 31st January 2007, DBHLC setup on daily, down to 1.0. I kid you not.

Well, it worked for a handful, then made a minor new high, stopping me out. I stopped looking at the chart for 3 weeks, so sour was I. Had everything lined up saying that this was going to be THE top. Then getting stopped out, well, it wasn't fun.

Turns out I basically missed the trade of 2007 by less than 200 pips and 20 days. Oh well.

Next time, eh bro?

As you know USDCAD was one of my five pairs I traded until late March 07. From Jan to March it bounced between 1.1600 and 1.1800 and was sooo annoying to trade as it whipsawed me out day after day.

Of course, as you say, as soon as I discarded the pair it fell off the cliff almost without a retrace to 1.0500 area before fannying around for a couple of months between 1.03 & 1.08. Then the drop from 1.08 to where we are today. Easy these charts after the event aren't they?

Oh dear, is that a PB on NZDUSD forming? Hmm EURAUD looks OK too & AUDUSD is starting to look exhausted too.

Will the dollar make a Friday comeback to help these USD pin bars? Questions, questions hehe

It's amazing how the tired, weathered veteran of the markets looks at the charts. Oh dear, another trade setup, here we go again

Good luck with those, looks like the dollar bears have subsided pressure so you may indeed make some pippage on these trades. I'm staying out though, gonna enjoy the stress-free weekend for once lol.

Well, you probably guessed all 3 trades taken on 20th swiftly turned into losers so September total stood at minus 186 pips

This week I've been off work and haven't taken any trades off the daily charts. Instead I've been scalping GBPJPY off the 5 minute charts.

So far, so good - banked over 1500 pips over the 2 and a half days increasing my balance by over 13% I'm getting more adept at this scalping and it's another string to the bow so to speak. Scalping actually feels like cheating lol, however I'd be happy with that over a month or two & profit is profit...

Hi steve,

What Forex broker do you use and what's the spread, I was always told not scalp as in forex the spreads are the problem!

Hi Morse,

The spread on this pair with my broker (Marketiva) is 8 pips which is pretty big, however, the pair moves very quickly which makes it more interesting

Fantastic trading Steve....No way should you feel like it is cheating, you have put in a tremendous amount of hard work learning the skills needed to trade in such a way (even if you hadn't realised it). That alone makes it your privilege to take pips from the market like that.

Well, its been over 1800 pips this week so far from over 100 trades - just 2 losing trades (which were the first 2 lol). The vast majority of these are just 10 pip profit trades as I lock in 10 pips as soon as I'm in profit. A few have gone onto 20, 30, 40.

I'm not using stop losses until I lock in a profit (which I wouldn't recommend) but just playing around to see how I fare this week.

If I can do this consistently then you never know, this may be the way to go, maybe just trading 3 or 4 days a month when I feel like it....

OK, have scalped GBPJPY all day today and made 380 pips over 33 trades. This week have made over 150 scalping trades with 2 closed out at a loss, the remainder at a profit.

Lost count of the amount of pips scalped on GJ this week but my account balance is up 18.4% from Sunday.

It's just broken through 234.20 area at last but I'm tired so taking a break - well for the moment anyway

Hi,

Steve yes my spread is the same, what contract size are you trading .10? and are you using pinbars? you do seem to do better scalping, although most fulltime traders say scalping is a no no....

I'm not using pin bars for the scalping trades as there's an awful lot of noise on these 5 min charts. A bit difficult to explain how I'm trading on the 5 min but mainly looking at s/r areas and also confirmation from the 15m, 30m, 1 hour & 4 hour charts.

As this is my first year trading live I promised myself that I would just trade with tiny amounts until I know what I'm doing. Although I have that 1KT badge I don't consider myself anything approaching a pro trader yet lol. I think I've 'achieved' in the sense that I haven't blown my account and I'm so far in profit for the year.

I guess the term 'full time trader' can mean different things to different people. My idea of trading full time would not be to replace the full time job by sitting in front of the pc all day as that would just become another job. Getting out of that job mentality is the main aim long term. I realise that some months are better than others and you have to look at it on a longer term basis - quarterly, half yearly, annually.

I'll get there...

Hi,

I have a few friends who just trade forex but they trade mechanicaly the comp does everything!! which saves decision making, I used to trade futures I thought they were tough! but forex is far harder to trade and far more liquid. I was considering scalping as I have not found a suitable method to trade otherwise! Most people state you should trade larger time frames the problem there is that your stops have to be far larger and thus your contract size far smaller. The other strange thing with Forex is that it is not regulated which I find hard to understand every other market is....I look forward to your Scalping progress...

I've never traded anything before forex but from what I've seen in a few posts here and elsewhere, quite a few have found forex more difficult to master than stocks, futures etc.

I think longer term is easier to start as there is less noise but you obviously need your stops farther away as you say. This week has been a little test of how far I've come - I started scalping on demo when first introduced to forex and I was awful lol. As I made the transition to live trading I felt the daily charts fitted in with my normal work patterns and I've done OK overall.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, all my scalps so far this week have been long trades on the GBPJPY. However, just made two trades that I've closed for another 20 pips - short from 234.46 & then again from 234.38.

It's been an education this week and maybe worth pursuing - even if I just trade an hour or two a day when I'm home...

I have been following your trading journal for the past couple of months, I would like to commend you on your honest approach even posting losing trades. Your journal makes for good reading.

Your GJ scalping caught my eye, I also scalp this pair, which has been good hunting of late. I tend to scalp between the M5 and M15 charts using the H1 and the H4 for trend direction and confirmation.

Keep up the good work and reporting those positive pips.

Hey thanks

The journal has been good for me in many ways - I think I'm much further ahead than I would have been if I'd not chosen to do it. Helps keep the discipline even if it is embarrassing sometimes to post the not so good trades lol.

Interesting that you also scalp this pair - it's been an experience this week haha.

Well, just woke up after I fell asleep on the sofa hehe. Not sure if it was the cold that woke me but anyhow was a good time to check the charts.

I'd already closed four 10 pip shorts with a 5th open from 234.13. Just manually closed that one for another 110. Wow, this pair has been good to me this week

I'm pleased to see my friend Pluto took this last short too

Hmm, I bet I won't be able to get back to sleep now lol
