Forex - Pound weaker after BoE reveals credit conditions to tighten
LONDON (Thomson Financial) - The pound levelled out at weaker levels against the dollar after a Bank of England survey warned UK lending conditions could get tighter in the fourth quarter.
The pound fell to a low of 2.0110 usd from 2.0170 usd shortly before the survey's release at 8.30 GMT, and then recovered back to around 2.0130 usd.
The BoE survey showed lenders expect credit conditions for corporations to tighten further in the next three months, following a reduction in credit availability in the third quarter.
Simon Derrick at the Bank of New York Mellon said tighter lending conditions would 'put a clamp on mortgage lending', further worsening the prospects for a housing market already burdened by high official interest rates.
Sterling weakness is also coming from expectations for a cut in BoE rates by the summer of next year, he said.
The BoE survey coincided with second-quarter GDP data, which showed annual growth revised up to 3.1 pct, and figures showing the UK current account deficit narrowed in the second quarter.

Geez! I'm still deciding if I should hold on to my longs or stop loss. I got in at 231.8 and 2.0133.

I got out at GJ at break even but it seems that our dear GU doesn't want to go back up. Let's hope the 8.30pm news will bring down the USD .... *evil laugh*
