MBT/EFX's swap rates are deplorable, as outlined in my post here. Also, their commissions of $5 per $100k are really high (IB is only $2 per $100k).

I'm not sure about Hotspot's retail commissions or swaps, but their spreads are decent (1-3pip on majors).

I never used Hotspot but heard good things about them. I use MBT for my managed account business. I agree about their swaps, pretty crappy but my trading methods don't rely on it so it doesn't bother me at all. Their commissions to me are manageable since I don't go in and out of trades so quickly. For scalpers, I think they might find it a little better with other brokers besides MBT, but overall, it's a decent broker. I've used many brokers in the past and didn't have that good of an experience. I'm happy with MBT for now. It's hard to find a good broker these days.....

Hotspot retail commissions is $30 per 1 mio. currency traded (note: not per 1mio. USD traded like MB, big difference). The only thing i didnt like about them is their order system, thats also the reason i stopped trading with them. On FXi you can only put in bids and offers and market-orders. FXr is the same platform, but they added a system for stop-orders. When you are in a position, and you add a stop-order for it, they place it on the bank-platform of your counterparty. This means its possible that the aggregate "platform price" can trade through your stop with out being hit (one time i had it filled 5 pips away from market). I personally dont know how traders on FXi can live without stop-orders. I want real stops that get hit where they are supposed to be hit, so i moved somewhere else.

Other than that, its a solid company, cheap comissions, owned by Knight Capital. Spreads are pretty much the same like MB or IB, IIRC.They even pay a bit of interest on funds. MBT has some other advantages Hotspot doesnt have ("real" stops and many other order types, more flexible position size), but have much more expensive commissions.
