Simple Trend-Following Strategy: Channel + Signals (H4/M5)
Hi everyone, I’d like to share a simplified strategy based on a combination of channels and signal indicators, similar to CRT + TBS.
The Strategy Logic:

  1. H4 Chart (Trend Identification): First, I look at the H4 timeframe to determine the overall direction.

    1. In the example provided, the H4 signal is Buy.
    2. Wait for a pullback where the H4 candle retraces toward the lower line of the channel.
    3. Crucial: We only stay in the trade if the indicator does not generate a Sell signal during this pullback.



  2. M5 Chart (Execution): Once the H4 conditions are met (price at the bottom of the H4 channel without a trend reversal), I drop down to the M5 timeframe for the entry.

    1. I have marked the entry zone with a small blue rectangle on both charts.

      Forex Indicators for MT4, MT5, and cTrader

    2. "I am using the indicators with their default settings."
      The signal indicator used in this strategy is 100% NRP (Non-Repainting).
    3. Fixed Signals: It prints the signal on the current candle (at the High/Low) and never disappears. Once a candle closes with an arrow, that arrow remains there forever.
    4. Historical Accuracy: Because it is non-repainting, the historical signals you see on the charts are 100% accurate representations of where the signals actually appeared in real-time. There is no "back-painting" to make the strategy look better than it is.
    5. Why this works: Noise Reduction & Precision
      The core logic behind using the higher timeframe is that higher timeframes have significantly less market noise and fewer erratic swings. * Reliable Zones: Because of this stability, the channel indicator is highly effective at calculating accurate entry zones on the H4 chart.
      Catching Big Moves: By entering from these H4 zones and executing the trade on the M5 chart, we can catch massive waves early.
      Avoiding "Chop": This approach allows us to stay away from noisy consolidations, minor stagnations, and small, meaningless fluctuations that often trigger false signals on lower timeframes.

And why not candle #2?
This would be much sooner and very well justified as a reversal pattern.
#1 is Engulfing with Higher Low,
Next candles are inside #1,
#2 already is signaling a Bullish dominance.
#2 is in fact a 3-bar Bullish reversal pattern inside the Bullish Market established by #1.

As I wrote, I would enter at the circled part if the indicator gave a buy signal. (pullback)

I use a fixed dollar-based SL. If volatility is very high, I reduce the lot size so that the SL distance remains the same. I don't use a TP. When it reaches the target (2-3x), I immediately activate the trailing stop. Sometimes I slide the SL manually. Breakeven is automatically activated after a certain profit for protection purposes. Sometimes they suddenly yank the candle up and down when Trump posts something on X.

OK, so please tell me, if that's the strategy, why can't you just trade the H4, for example, simply adding positions on the middle line? Like the red dots in my image?
Why complicate by trying to catch pips on M5?

This is a good idea too, but if the market is moving sideways, then I think it's not good this way. Who knows. You have to try it this way too!

We should write a good channel indicator. MTF. Band touch alert. etc... Will you write it?
