i'm not sure if this was brought up before, but i want u guys to draw a fibo on the daily chart: high 243.90 (august 8) to low 219.26 (august 17)

check out the 61.8%. there where 2 attempts at least to close above it and failed, also 3 attempts to touch it and blown down afterwards (last one was today...). my guess if by tomorrow that sucker closed above this line, i think we're up to a really nice 300-500 pip move upwards... any thoughts?

In addition, US 10 yrs treasuries is close at -0.51 (bearish .. bearish). The 7:30 PM EDT news in Japan would play a big in direction too. Dow didn't give enough punch for it to go lower, probably in Japan session would. Otherwise, would not be a good much lower to go . .maybe ..I could be wrong.

By the way, you're right, sitting here nicely with green color

Thanks for your chart .. a bit difficult to understand but that's ok. EW is always quite tricky for me

Yo Markam,

I have noticed that more or less you go to the opposite of Karmo or Auslanco.

I sit and listen to all your ramblings & they all make sense(and the light hearted stick), but this beast sticks his 2 fat fingers up to you, most if not all the time & does the opposite of what you want.

You have got to be right some time..........

I hope not this time as I have gone with the flock. So with that in mind, you will be ok this time as it always goes against me. Bougger.

Actually I usually go along with Aus. The only time I don't is when the fundamentals do not support his expected movement. I can't see any reason to believe that market traders are going to be willing to push GJ up. The bullish chart elements are simply an artifact of that silly positive day in the US markets yesterday. The equity markets are moving back to a more sensible bearish stance, and the GJ technicals will follow.

Another chance to load a short at 233.58 ( only if it gets there and not more than that ) if you consider this at wave C of a wave 2 inside a wave 3 going down.

Try it on DEMO only unless you follow EW.

I am beginning to believe Markam may just be right , that is, with regards to the stock market. Their is a distinct correlation with the DJI and GBP/YEN. Below is a 1 minute chart of gbp/yen compared to yahoo's Dow Jones Industrial Average chart. Notice the earlier sharp spike downwards.

Sorry if this seems a bit obvious & I don't get the question, but............

1. Goto VT navigator.
2. Open up the Indicator navigator.
3. Select "moving Average"
4. In the window, type 5 in the period line.(No other change to that TAB)
5. Select whatever colour(Think Aus uses Cyan or light blue) in the Color/style TAB.

That is basically it...............

Is this what you want......?

Yes i see that lilmoe, and also notice the dow is testing the down trend resistance as well ONCE AGAIN. Todays hammer bar could be the clue to a break above plus we are still above the weekly pivot. If the currency markets make any move up today i think we could break out tomorrow to the upside. If not we will roll back over again... either way I will have my sleeves rolled up be ready for the slaying.

Somebody ran the correlation coeficient for the dow and GJ, looking back years. It is 1, meaning there is an exact, 100% correlation between the two. Unfortunately, that was on daily numbers. What would be most useful would be to get hold of minute data for both GJ and the dow, so we can analyze short-term correlations and lag time. This would make the dow an extremely useful tool for scalping.

My rough estimate from watching the two pairs is that GJ moves 1-1.5 pips for each point in dow movement, and GJ movement lags by about 20-30 seconds.

Hello all,

I think it is a really difficult one at the moment. From what the equity markets and bond markets tell us there is a lot of downside pressure on that pair at the moment.

However there seem to be talks that the Japanese Toshin fund is going live with new funds tonight - and that there will be JPY-cross buying in the region of 12-15 billion Yen in the Asian and early European session. This would be a fair amount especially for the Asian session - and given the current low liquidity in the market this could mean a big move up. This might be the trigger that could lift our pair above the magic 235 line.

I think we all have to wait for a breakout and hope that we catch the right direction.

Nice charts man Godfrey...I also agree the correlation from long time..also with NZD/USD and AUD/USD pairs too...they tend to go in the same direction and all carry trade pairs mirror their directions

Markam, are you referring to tick data? That depends upon your data feed. Forex is much more "eratic" than the futures market but my lag time is around 5-10 seconds depending on the strength of the trend. If the dow takes off GBP/JPY is right behind it. They are definitely not correlated 100% of the time other wise we wouldn't be having this discussion i think.
