Interesting. What/how much data (I assume futures) have you used and for which symbol?

Although VA is a good choice for objectivity, instead of some MA, I see few attack vectors to falsify the H0 that VA doing the work if it's stock indices...

How much data: just shy of 9 years
Symbol: NQ & ES (though for the VP test, it was based on 1 strategy that trades the NQ/MNQ)

I was trying to use the Volume Profile to get out of some trades that were being made, but overall, my idea was shown to be wrong, and it was the opposite of what I wanted. The strategy was put through a funnel and tested in many ways, and so far, I have been able to trust it to reject my stupid ideas a lot quicker than I used to do manually.

Where can I find that much data with volume? I was always cut off the volume column when downloading data from TV since 2019 lol
I'm tracking 6B and 6E manually for 6 years, never touched VP programmatically..

Have you used prior day VA or it was a 'developing VA' for current day?

My system builds it 1-min at a time, and references either session, current day or previous day.
The test that I described before was current day

I am now up to 5 Topstep $100k XFA's so basically going for base hits on each account and then using the account multiplier of 5 to make a reasonable return.

A little backstory:

Before I attempted to trade algorithmically, I was constantly trying to use a discretionary system. It is super frustrating to try and be disciplined, then take 1 stupid trade and blow up an account. I have done that more times than I care to remember. In fact, I did it again today with Take Profit Trader.

Topstep used to use Tradovate and then moved over to the ProjectX platform. When they did, I became consistently profitable as long as I didn't overleverage my positions. I am not sure if it is the way the TopstepX platform allows you to easily move the SL and TP from the trade entry or the general speed of the charts, but I feel I was a loser using Tradovate, and to some degree, I still am. Today proved that old habits don't go away easily. This pushes me more to let the systems that I have built do their thing, as I, as a human discretionary trader, am not as consistent as I would like to be.

I just didn't want everyone to think that I was the next Jim Simons. I'm basically you, but maybe 1 step closer to never manually trading again.

Most trading improvement comes when we stop defending our opinions and let data prove us wrong. Manual trading is still useful, but testing removes a lot of ego

as they said don’t get married to an idea if not the market WILL prove you wrong
I used to tend to have a idea and convince myself the market musttt act on it until I got nerfed every given occasion.

I'd love to say it was all done by the programmatic strategies, but it wasn't. I still have a decent buffer of available drawdown, so I'll be looking for next week to be a week where I just let the system trade by itself. This is now x5 $100k XFA's - There are only 2 outcomes if I stay out of the decision making. The backtest was worth doing, the paper trading forward test was worth doing, and all will be well, or the testing missed something, and I need to go back to the drawing board. We shall see.

Coded a hard stop on using TopstepX platform.
There is a Mac OS application called SelfControl, which you can block URLs for a period of time. It's useful for when you want to stop yourself from browsing YouTube when you're supposed to be concentrating on the task at hand.
Anyway, I decided that I am better off not touching the platform, and that I need to make the rest of the time with the account fully automated. So I asked Claude to hard-code a 30-day lockout using the SelfControl CLI. The only analysis I have is the dashboard that I vibecoded and the API does the rest.

The market ripped higher at the open, and unfortunately, I don't have a strategy coded for that. I had to wait until towards the end when the range had settled in. A small loss, but overall, happy with how it all went.

It's a wide stop and a RRR 1:1 - but if it hits, 1 MNQ goes a long way to paying the weekly food shop.

I've backtested, OOS tested and forward tested these strategies. But the best thing I have done is remove myself from f'in with them via the power of the Self Control CLI - so at the end of May you will all see the difference between a trader who lets the process play out, versus one who is constantly second-guessing himself.

My advice to everyone is, if you have a strategy that you may be able to automate, do everything you can to automate it and remove the human element from it.
