Disliked{quote} At least use a break even. 1:2 is a traders dream but money management can save your account. If you can't use a smaller lot and sleep well.Just my 2 cents from things that work best for me. Good luck!

SL is for only 1 reason. It's for when your trading pattern/channel gets violated and it's no longer logical to keep your trade open.
So you set the SL somewhere outside your trading pattern/channel, where it will not easily get hit, yet not cost you too much if it does get hit. So this way your win rate is much higher.
If the SL is too close, it gets hit too easily to be worth it, because it lowers your win rate, and your long term ROI ends up being less.
Lower leverage only means smaller gains. If your win rate isn't good, then yes, use lower leverage, so you lose less, until you can get skilled enough to get a better win rate. Once you consistently get a good win rate, then going max leverage yields max ROI results, even if your costly SL gets hit every now and then.
You cannot fail if you never give up.
