Based on the concept of negative correlation, the movement you are observing is driven by the position of the US Dollar (USD) in each currency pair.
1. USDCHF (The Chart): In this pair, the USD is the "base" currency (the first one). When the chart shows USDCHF moving DOWN, it means the US Dollar is weakening or losing value against the Swiss Franc.
2. GBPUSD (The Counter-Movement): In this pair, the USD is the "quote" currency (the second one). Mathematically, when the denominator (USD) gets weaker, the value of the fraction goes up. Therefore, a weak US Dollar causes GBPUSD to move UP.
Conclusion: These pairs are negatively correlated because they both rely on the strength of the USD, but in opposite positions. As the USD sells off (causing USDCHF to drop), it simultaneously causes pairs where the USD is the counter-currency (like GBPUSD) to rise.
