Today I tested the last two weeks on gold with the settings I like the most. 90 pip fixed SL /setting 9000/, fixed lot 0.1; other settings can be read from the test. More modest result, smaller DD /11.61 %/

Yesterday's results are not conclusive because I messed with the settings a few times. I'll continue the pre-test with my own settings from Monday.

Can you explain your choices where I have put the red boxes. I missed the 'use same colour dot lockout-false"

It looks like you do not trade the activation or unlock signal and you do not lockout the trades after activation...so it looks like once a full candle closes outside the bands you miss that trade but take all the other trades until a candle closes back inside the bands and miss that trade also...is that right?

Also can you tell us why you close all trading at 20:00 and let trades close as they will...

I am asking because these are different than my settings I am using and wondered if you have found an advantage to using the settings this way because, as we know, these are the trades that cause the most problems lol

Hello chris,

I have been reading this thread from time to time and it seems like a very interesting one. I haven't tested the EA, and since the recent conversations in your thread regarding the integrity of the EA was questioned, I am hesitant to check it out and building it again if possible.

I just wanted to point out that, if the results change massively by just slightly tuning a parameter, than the results have a high chance of overfitting. I am not saying that the strategy is useless or the idea is bad etc..But be careful when playing with parameters. It's possible to find the perfect set of inputs that happen to work.

Again, I am not too deeply involved in this thread to make critical acclaims, but this is something you should know since you are in the process of figuring out. I would highly suggest looking at techniques like monte carlo simulation if you need to be 100% sure the results are genuine and you won't get trouble running it live if you decide you want to in the future. My 2 cents..

I get what you are saying.

My question to pusztafie were about a couple of parameters that were different to mine...in the larger scale of trades and results those parameters are not too significant, as you can see by her results, they are similar to mine over the same length of time.

The thing is while the EA has a lot of moving parts the strategy does not, it is still just 2 indicators and candle placement. I have tried to keep it simple.

Good day everyone. I want to outline the 2 variants I have been using alongside the running of the EA for the past 2 weeks.
You can find the results for the 2 methods in post 259, along with the EA results also.

As described previously I called them MULTIBANDS and MULTIBANDS W/ RECOVERY TRADES.

I want to focus mainly on the MULTIBANDS method as this is the more robust idea. So let me outline the method...

Trades are opened according to existing rules (no change there) and as far as Lockouts and trading times- that all stays the same, as options.

What is different is the exits and the ATR bands. I have added two more sets of ATR bands (so we have a midline and 3 bands either side). The exits differ in 2 ways...once a trade is opened it closes when a candle closes 2 lines away or 1 line away if the candle has a new Dot (same colour). Please watch the video for a deeper understanding.

The idea is to get out of trades sooner and increase the profits. It does not stop many more losses (it does some, obviously) but definitely increases the profit

I am not going to go into the MULTIBANDS W/ RECOVERY too deep (watch video) because I do not feel there is enough merit in the idea. I would like to implement some of the ideas into the EA but not the recovery trades. I would like to have the option to close at "touch of midline" or bands.

The settings mentioned were left as default by accident. I fixed two of them, I set the start of the trading time to 1.30 to avoid big swings at the opening. The closing time is 20 hours away. I ran a backtest with your settings and got worse results.

I would like to propose that this new multibands idea be given its own EA as I think it departs enough from the current iteration to justify a new EA.

I will outline a set of rules and parameters soon for the creation of an EA. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated.

Nice to see that you still were profitable both ways...

I was wondering about the start of day, seems it might be a good idea, glad we have that option

It will be the easist way to let Realblank make a copy of the existing EA and develop from there. It is a small work. If he does not want that, then I or some of the other coders can make it. But that would be like starting from scratch and it will take time.
MetaTrader 4 - so many advantages.

I somewhat agree that cloning the EA and adding some more bits to it is feasible and the quickest way (maybe).
What may be better, besides a new EA would be to clone the EA we have but strip out the parts we don't need and add the new features. But yes I believe that we could modify the existing EA to accomodate the new features and turn off what is not needed for each method. I will rely on Realblanks opinion on this ...if he is willing to help.
The other concern I have by adding more stuff to this EA it becomes quite the behemoth...as pointed out recently.

My reasons for publishing the new methods was the results...If the results had been a few thousand dollars better off than the EA results then I doubt there would be much reason to fuss, but the difference, for both new methods, was surprisingly staggering...and is worthy of more stand alone testing.

Excellent video Chris - really clear on what the parameters should be. I agree on the BE / partial close idea as quite a few points are left on the table in the example for the FU candle to make the trade a loser. A separate EA makes more sense and remove parts of the code which aren't being used. Happy to forwards test any new versions on my VPS

This post will outline the rules for an EA to trade the MULTIBANDS method, described yesterday in the video.

The indicators are the same 2 we are using now, but I was hoping you could add 2 more slots in the ATR indi to allow 2 more sets of bands.

The criteria for trade opening is the same as we are using now. We do not need the added features of lockouts or Aroon up/down. But I do like the "daily trading hours" options with the "close all trades" or" let trades close normally".

The trade MM should be the same also. Your dashboard is awesome also I like the Comment for trades and Pip Detection....and whatever other features you would like to keep.

The exits are 2 fold, firstly we need a candle to touch/close beyond (user input) 2ATR (bands) away from opening or secondly we need a candle with a Dot (same colour as active trade) to touch/close beyond (user input) 1ATR (band) away.

I would like a midline exit group of inputs (true/false), these include move to BE, close % of or portion of trade. we should be able to choose both or just one. These options should be with a touch/close beyond midline (user input).

That should cover all the things I deem relevant for now...there may be additions from other members below this post...

Hi Chris and everyone, I was thinking of making an all-encompassing EA, that is a new EA that would capture each of the 2-3 modes you described. That way there isn't an EA for each mode per se, and it could be easier to test and the like. So indeed, I would strip down the current EA to only the most useful and critical aspects and would then also add these two extra modes. I would essentially put the inputs in sections to make it really clear and differentiate between modes, where users can choose which mode they want and then proceed with changing those mode-specific inputs (whereby the other inputs under the other modes would not matter per se). By the way shall I implement the MULTIBANDS RECOVERY Mode as well or just the MULTIBANDS, what's your take on that matter?

I hope to not make this EA as lumpy as the current one. On that matter, I am wondering if I should keep the Trade Connection Lines and all those visualizations? Or if I should really keep it as minimal and pure as possible?

Trade connection lines are important in order to judge what is working in the proces of analyzing.
