I've been thinking a lot about the hedging logic in our EA recently and have a very specific idea I'd like to discuss with you.
I mainly want to solve two major headaches: first, the fear of a sudden market reversal causing both long and short positions to lose money—it feels too passive. Second, and more worryingly, is the issue of "hedging imbalance." For example, if I have 20 long lots and 10 short lots, and those 10 short lots hit their profit target and close automatically, I'm left with 20 exposed long lots. If the market then turns downward, losses could snowball rapidly before I can manually re-add short positions to hedge.
So, I was wondering if we could make the EA "smarter"? How about implementing a precise "use profits to offset losses" operation?
Here's an example: suppose the short positions currently have a floating profit of +18.7, and the long positions have a floating loss of -18.7. My thought process is:
Step 1: Close part of the short positions, locking in that 18.7 profit for real.
Step 2: Immediately use this realized profit to close a portion of the long positions whose loss amounts to exactly 18.7. This swap leaves the total account balance unchanged, but the total number of open positions is significantly reduced (e.g., from 22 lots down to 12 lots).
It would be like performing "precise surgery" on the account, using the money the market has already given me as the "surgery fee" to proactively cut out the weakest positions. The core goal isn't to chase more profit, but to quickly "lighten the load" on the account, making its overall structure healthier and its risk lower.
I feel this could make our EA much more proactive in risk control, instead of just reacting after losses have grown. What do you think? How difficult would it be to implement this logic into the system?

The core principle of managing trading drawdowns lies in setting clear, staged defense lines. You must take decisive action at a 20% drawdown (e.g., halting new trades and actively reducing positions) and treat 30% as an absolute, non-negotiable red line. This final barrier is crucial to fundamentally prevent the self-destructive cycle of revenge trading that follows severe losses. Recovery is not passive waiting but proactive management. From the early stages of a drawdown (e.g., 15%), use your EA's tools (like partial close functions) to reduce exposure and lower profit targets, aiming to steadily recover losses through subsequent, conservative gains. Ultimately, top traders master the art of "losing well"—while the market grants profits, you control the losses. True, long-term success is defined not by any single windfall but by the unwavering discipline to keep losses within your strategy's bounds.
