Gold Futures Above $5100 & Silver Futures Near $110: Is Profit Booking Around the Corner?

At the start of the new week on Monday, precious metals opened gap up in Asian markets, with gold and silver once again hitting fresh lifetime highs. Prices surged amid escalating geopolitical tensions and an ongoing trade war among major global economies, driving strong safe haven demand.

On Monday, Gold April futures climbed to a record high of $5128.85 per ounce, while Silver March futures also touched a new lifetime high at $109.320.

What is happening in gold and silver this week?

Despite the sharp rally, I continue to believe that profit booking is likely at these elevated levels. Therefore, once again, I recommend focusing on intraday selling strategies in gold and silver futures.

I expect TGT 1 to be achieved within the next few hours. As reiterated in my previous articles, traders should sell aggressively at lifetime highs. Those holding earlier short positions may consider adding positions (double or triple averaging) at these levels and look to book profits above TGT 1 before the New York market close.

If profit booking emerges today, we could witness a decline of nearly 2% in gold and 5.5% in silver from the highs. This phase presents a strong opportunity to sell at peak levels and recover past losses through disciplined intraday trading.

As advised, I recommended selling Gold around the 5125 level, and within minutes, prices dropped to 5088, delivering a $37 profit. After that correction, Gold again moved up to a fresh lifetime high near 5145.
Once again, I advised traders to strictly follow the mentioned stop-loss, sell aggressively at higher levels, and wait for fresh intraday lows before today’s market close.

MCX gold and silver markets remained closed on Monday due to the 26th January Republic Day holiday.

At the start of the week, MCX prices opened with a strong gap-up, touching fresh lifetime highs.
MCX Gold Feb Futures surged to ₹159820 per 10 grams.
MCX Silver March Futures opened at a 6% upper circuit and later hit a lifetime high near ₹359800 per kg.

In international markets, precious metals also witnessed sharp volatility. After the US markets opened on Monday, gold gained nearly 3%, while silver jumped over 17%.
COMEX Gold April Futures reached $5145.39.
COMEX Silver March Futures touched $117.693.

However, after hitting record highs, heavy volatility emerged during US sessions. By market close, prices corrected sharply:
Gold declined nearly 2%, falling to around $5022
Silver dropped almost 14%, touching $101.700

The recent rally in precious metals was driven by President Trumps trade policies and heightened global geopolitical tensions, keeping markets extremely volatile across US and Asian sessions.

Now, after MCX gold and silver have again reached lifetime highs today, the key question is what should intraday traders do next?

As emphasized consistently in my earlier updates, intraday trading remains the safest and most effective approach in such highly volatile market conditions. Historically, sharp gap up openings followed by lifetime highs often invite profit booking after the European session begins. Hence, my strategy continues to focus on selling at elevated levels. At current levels, both Gold and Silver are trading in ideal sell zones near their lifetime highs. Given the extreme volatility, strong profit booking is expected within the next few hours. At the start of the week from Monday onwards, a significant move has been observed in the US Dollar against major global currencies. The US Dollar witnessed a broad-based sell off yesterday, and notably, this move was not driven by US bond yields nor by weakness in US asset markets.


As a result, major currencies strengthened sharply. EUR/USD and GBP/USD has surged close to its 52 week high, trading around the $1.2026 level and $1.3831 level during the European morning session. At these elevated levels, I believe the market is now well positioned for profit booking from today onwards.


If the US Dollar regains strength, we could see sharp corrective moves in major currencies such as EUR/USD and GBP/USD, along with pressure on precious metals like Gold and Silver both.


Based on this view, I expect profit booking in EUR/USD and GBP/USD and also sharing my intraday trading strategy below:
