Early Trend Detection

Here’s one way to detect a trend early and know how long to stick with it.

Trading the trend is a favorite technique of technical analysts. Trends are usually detected by some variation of following a moving average. The problem with this approach is that the moving averages invariably introduce lag because they require a relatively large amount of historical data to form a reliable indicator. This article introduces the quotient transform, which nonlinearly manipulates indicators to not only produce an early trend detection but also provides the ability to know how long to stick with the trend.

QUOTIENT TRANSFORM MATHEMATICS

Transforms are handy devices that change indicator waveforms to better interpret the meaning of various indicators. They introduce zero lag into the indicators, which is a good thing. For example, a Fisher transform changes any indicator probability distribution to have a nearly normal probability distribution, with the result that visibility peak turning points are highly amplified.

Overview of the KST Indicator

Calculation of the KST Indicator

2. Smoothing: Apply a simple moving average (SMA) to each ROC to smooth the data.
3. Weighting: Assign different weights to each ROC based on its time period, with longer periods receiving more weight.
4. Signal Line: Create a signal line by taking the 9-period SMA of the KST value.

Kumo implied volatility is quantified by measuring the thickness of the Kumo (cloud) in the Ichimoku trading system, which can indicate market volatility and potential trend exhaustion.
What is Kumo Implied Volatility?
Kumo implied volatility refers to the measurement of market volatility derived from the thickness of the Kumo (cloud) in the Ichimoku Kinko Hyo indicator. The Kumo is formed by two lines, Span A and Span B, which represent future support and resistance levels. The distance between these two lines indicates the volatility of the market.
How to Measure Kumo Implied Volatility

1. Calculate Kumo Thickness: The thickness of the Kumo is determined by taking the absolute value of the distance between Span A and Span B. This value can be normalized to create standard deviation bands for better analysis.
2. Interpret the Values:

1. A Kumo thickness reading above 100 suggests that the Kumo is thicker than two standard deviations of the average thickness, indicating potential trend exhaustion.
2. A reading below 20 indicates low volatility and may suggest Kumo twists, which can signal potential breakouts or reversals.
3. Use in Trading: Traders can use Kumo implied volatility as a setup indicator for identifying trend exhaustion or low volatility breakouts. Extreme readings before Kumo breakouts can provide valuable insights into potential market movements.

The Polychromatic Momentum System and it's technical indicators by Dennis Meyers:
Momentum is defined as the difference, or percent change, between the current bar and a bar some lookback period in the past. The major problem with using momentum-based indicators is that the optimum lookback period seems to change over time creating losses with the current chosen lookback period. To avoid the errors due to a single lookback period we create an indicator that takes a weighted average of all significant lookback periods for the tradable. We named this indicator polychromatic because poly means many and chromatic means colors. Thus, polychromatic momentum for this indicator translates into the sum of many momentums.

The momentum magnitudes from different lookback periods are not equalized. That is, the momentum from 17 bars ago will have a range of magnitudes that are much greater than the range of momentum magnitudes of the one bar momentum. For Brownian motion random processes, the expected distance a particle can move is proportional to the square root of time. Thus, to equalize the effect of differences in magnitude so that the longer bar momentum magnitudes don't swamp the magnitudes of the shorter bar momentums in an average, we will weigh the momentum values. The weighting function that we chose here is n α , where α is a system input variable. This weighting will equalize the various momentum magnitudes

Corrected Theory:
Dr. Alexander Uhl invented a method that he used on to filter the moving average and to check for signals. Originally it was intended to be used on averages only. But it turns out that it can be used on some other indicators too.

Corrected polychromatic momentum indicator:
"Correction" was added to the momentum in order to try and filter out many false signals that polychromatic momentum tends to have (if you try to use polychromatic momentum based on the slope, it will lead you to anything but usable indicator - the "corrected" method changes that and turns the polychromatic momentum indicator into a much more usable indicator).
Alerts are included already. Depending on color choice the alerts are triggered too. Possible color/alert choices are:

1. on outer level cross
2. on middle level cross
3. on slope change
4. on original polychromatic momentum value cross (when "corrected" value is used as a kind of a signal line compared to original value)

Trend Direction and Force Index

Developed by psychologist and trader Alexander Elder, it was first published in his 1993 book, “Trading for a Living”. This indicator is an oscillator that swings between 1 and -1 and can be qualified as a zero cross by combining both price movement and volume. It has the added advantage of displaying a neutral zone where no significant bull or bear “force” exists, and the market has no distinct direction. This area is between -0.05 and +0.05 as noted on the indicator levels.

This is an updated version with alerts, more averages, and hopefully lighter on the computer.

What is the Alpha Trend indicator?

The Alpha Trend is an improved version of what was originally called "Trend Magic".

The Alpha Trend formula consists of several indicators:

1. RSX (Relative Strength Index)
2. ATR (Average True Range)
3. MFI (Money Flow Index)

Improving over the Trend Magic's solid foundations, the Alpha Trend ensures it's able to withstand ranging markets keeping you aligned with the right trend even in times of low or no trading activity.

Madrid Trend Squeeze

This study spots the points that are most profitable in the trend with a code color and shape. This also shows trend divergences and possible reversal or reentry points

Keeping the parameters simple, this study only needs one parameter, the length of the base moving average, which by default is set to 34.

There are seven colors used for the study

Green: Uptrend in general
Lime: Spots the current uptrend leg
Aqua: The maximum profitability of the leg in a long trade
The Squeeze happens when Green+Lime+Aqua are aligned (the larger the values the better)

Maroon: Downtrend in general
Red: Spots the current downtrend leg
Fuchsia: The maximum profitability of the leg in a short trade
The Squeeze happens when Maroon+Red+Fuchsia are aligned (the larger the values the better)

Yellow: The trend has come to a pause, and it is either a reversal warning or a continuation. These are the entry, re-entry or closing position points.

When either the fuchsia or the aqua colors disappear or shrinks meaningfully it could mean a possible leg exhaustion that will have to be confirmed with the subsequent bars.
When the squeeze color appears without the intermediate color (fuchsia+yellow, fuchsia+maroon, aqua+yellow, aqua+green) it could mean this is just a shake off move, a pump/dump move, a buy the dip or a sell the peak move or a gap.

In the example there are three divergences spotted, the first one between March 2009 and September 2010 when the peaks in the indicator made a lower low, meanwhile the price made a higher high, this is a negative divergence and a trend reversal. On the second example, between April 2013 and July 2013 the indicator made a higher high meanwhile the price made a double bottom, this is a positive divergence and a reversal to the upside.

Braid Filter
This indicator was first introduced in 2006 in the Stocks and Commodities Magazine by a gentleman named Robert Hill also known as “Mr.Pips”. The “braid” is formed by intersections of lines based on different moving averages. The difference between the two is then plotted as a histogram. Filter line is based on a percentage of the ATR value.

The Demand Index combines price and volume in such a way that it is often a leading indicator of price change.

Demand Index is developed by James Sibbet. When calculating this index, the prices and volume are used. This index is considered to be a leading one. In this version the index is vary from +100 to -100. In other aspects the index calculation is precisely repeats the author's version.
There are six rules for the Demand Index:

1. Divergence between the Index and a price trend supports the idea that the price is "weak"
2. In case the market starts increasing its activity, new price highs are usually preceded by Demand Index maximum peaks (the Index works as a forward-looking indicator in this case)
3. The case when a price reaches new highs, but the Index value is lower than its previous top, is usually accompanied by "significant" reversals on the top (the Index works as an accompanying indicator in this case)
4. The case when the Index crosses the zero level, shows the change of a trend (the Index works as a lagging indicator in this case);
5. The case when the Index remains near the zero level for some time, shows that the current price move is weak and it will not last long.
6. Wide long-term divergence between the prices and the Index values implies big tops and bottoms.

Relative Price Channel Basics:

RSI indicator is frequently used in trading decisions coupled with levels checking. Levels are supposed to show if there is overbought or oversold condition. But frequently we are neglecting the fact that the market is adjusting itself to price changes, and that indicators like RSI may actually show overbought and oversold conditions even when the market already adjusted itself.

This version:
It is using the RSI and is constructing a high and low neutral zone using a simple EMA lag - in this case the lag of an average is our ally - without adding that lag, the breakout will never happen. When the RSI crosses the topmost or lowest bound, only then consider that a "real" overbought or oversold condition is happening.

Usage:
You can use it for possible reversal conditions detecting.

Added a few more rsi methods along with a signal line and rsi coloring options.

While super smoother is a type of average, super smoothing is a process that transforms existing averages into something else (as you have noticed there are average types that can be "super smoothed - to super smoothed "whatever"). So even super smoother can be super smoothed The "super smoothing is in that sense similar to double smoothing, except that the process is completely different (I can tell you that double smoothing is a two-step process while super smoothing is a three-step process). Also, the results are quite different - and that is why it will probably be included in the averages indicator which will double the possible average types (hence it will be almost 300, which will take a lifetime to explore all )

Just made it as a mt5 version and added more averages and filtering for testing purposes.

Indicator developed by Brazilian analyst Odir Aguiar (Didi), consists of "Moving Averages", known as Didi's needles, which allows the visualization of reversal points.
The concept is very simple, when you insert 3 Moving Averages on display, one of three periods, an 8 and the other 20, there appears the formation of the indicator which works on an axis or center line 0. The needles occur when the intersection of averages comes closest to the line 0.

On this version made it as a macd type histogram of the difference between the fast and slow didi averages.

Buy Sell Pressure Indicator

Buying and selling pressure is a volatility indicator which denotes the balance between buyers and sellers inside candlestick.
You set the length to average it just like ATR. But This offers further break down of participants of the market.
Pretty much at any condition of the market the indicator can filter out interesting details to make trading decisions faster or confirm them.

So keep it simple we have two lines
Green → buying pressure
Red → selling pressure

If green is rising → Price most likely will grow
If green is rising and red is falling → Price will grow at higher probability
If red is rising → Price most likely will fall
If red is rising and green is falling → Price will fall at higher probability

When they both grow or fall → wait till one of them goes opposite way.

╳ Crossings can indicate turning points for bigger price swings.
Technically by very act of intersecting means that Buying and Selling Pressure are equal.

Arrows and alerts are coded for the crossings.
