In the international market, Gold and Silver Futures hit all time highs on Tuesday. Gold February futures surged close to the $4700 per ounce mark on Monday, while Silver March futures traded near the $94.740 range on Tuesday. This sharp rally was driven by increased safe haven demand after US President Donald Trump threatened to impose new tariffs on several European countries amid his push to acquire Greenland.
Similarly, in the domestic MCX market, Gold and Silver futures opened gap up and reached lifetime high today.
MCX Gold February futures touched a lifetime high near ₹148000 per 10 grams, while MCX Silver March futures climbed to around ₹320000 per kilogram today.

MCX Gold and Silver opened with a sharp gap up today, and prices surged aggressively, moving almost vertically after market open. Gold even hit the upper circuit, with Gold up over 5% and Silver rising more than 4% during today’s session.
Despite my sell side advice over the last two sessions, prices have continued to move higher, reaching fresh lifetime highs of ₹158339 per 10 grams in Gold and ₹335521 per kg in Silver.
This extreme move has made traders highly cautious and nervous, as volatility remains elevated after the gap up opening. Notably, international gold and silver prices have not shown any major movement, indicating that the sharp rally in MCX is largely driven by domestic volatility and currency impact.
The primary reason behind this rally in MCX is the sharp depreciation in the rupee, with USD/INR touching a lifetime high near $91.50 today. Currency volatility has significantly amplified price movements in domestic precious metals.

Gold prices continued their upward momentum on Wednesday morning during Asian trading, once again hitting fresh lifetime highs.
Despite my sell side recommendations over the past two sessions, precious metals have extended their rally, with Gold February Futures reaching a new record high near $4890.35 per ounce, compared to $4539.10 last Friday, rise of nearly 5% in just two sessions. Silver prices also remain in an uptrend, though today’s movement has been relatively muted compared to gold.
The surge in gold is primarily driven by US/EU trade tensions and escalating geopolitical risks, which have significantly boosted safe haven demand. The rally was further supported by Donald Trump’s threat to impose additional tariffs on eight EU countries over Greenland, alongside Denmark’s decision to strengthen its military presence in the region. As a result, volatility in gold and silver remains elevated.
Meanwhile, the US Dollar Index weakened, falling to around $98.025, reinforcing golds strength due to their inverse relationship. Major currencies such as the Euro and British Pound have also gained in this risk off environment.
*Why a Downside Correction Is Expected in Gold Today*
1. At current lifetime high levels, profit booking is likely ahead of major global market openings.
2. The Gold and Silver ratio, which touched a 14 year low yesterday, is showing signs of corrective buying in silver, potentially weighing on gold prices.
