As iv crashes, the p/l curve is pretty flaccid on the weekly diagonals. It's a trade-off - you get in for 50c +/- and maybe hope to get out for $2, not bad, but need a good finish for that. ...no downside risk is a bit of a lie on backspreads: even if you put them on for a credit, with no "downside" - ie, if RUT price goes down, you might have to spend money to close, could close for a loss, but that typically only happens if you hold til expiry day.

comparable trade for SPX....prime time on these back spreads will be in the hour after the FOMC. I have no strong conviction that the market will pop, but we'll see.

VWD - very wide diagonals - these can be put on for low debit and have a very near b/e, will make money on any kind of drop, probably best to take profit immediately & not hold too long - down moves are fleeting

even a 1-day VWD can be worthwhile. Need to burn about $25 in margin to get down to near $0 debit, but b/e can then be just a 15 pt drop south. I would try these on good pullback set-ups and if you catch the occasional 1% drop, they might do well. There will be downside action in the market again, someday...

SPX combo for the week, entered Friday as spoos was recovering. Will add the 6930 call calendar shown on Monday. Watching 6850 for the diagonal. I would like a nice, controlled move up to about 6900 for the week, no higher. A Friday close just below 6810 is the perfect finish, will be worth >$20k net.

rolled up the call diagonal 50 pts early, but still a $1.50 debit. Might end up rolling it up again. Also added the additional legs shown. Don't think we will see back to back +1.5% days, though. My sweet spot is about 6880 by Friday. If we are up again Tues I will roll up the 6630 put cldr to 6700.
