Every broker has drawdown limits. It's called a margin call.

Prop firms call it "drawdown limit" but it's just semantics and word jiggery to obfuscate the truth.

If we use a so-called 100K account as an example with a daily drawdown limit of 5%
The 5% or $5000 in this example, is our actual account size...which we can also trade with absolutely no restrictions, except of course until we receive a margin call or 'hard breach' as prop firms call it.

Think of it as having a small account with 2000:1 leverage.
I haven't worked it exactly but basically that is what it is.

Some prop firms offer 30:1 and others 50:1 or even 100:1 also depending on instrument

Regardless which leverage, if calculate the maximum position size on a 100k account and trade that on a $5000 account (effectively) one can get a margin call in as little as 10pips!

In summary:
The account size & leverage tell us the maximum position size we can trade the actual account
The daily drawdown = the actual account

Wouldn't it be more honest to simply say: "here is a $5000 account which you can trade with 2000:1 leverage - good luck"?
because, that is the reality.
Therefore, remaining with the example, we can trade it like a $5000 account with crazy leverage at our disposal, or pretend it is a 100K account with very tight drawdown restrictions. But, it's the same thing.

I have extensive experience with both Darwinex and Prop Firms. I’ve earned over $20,000 in profit share from Darwinex, and around $20,000 from MyForexFunds. I’ve also attempted multiple challenges from FTMO and The5ers, but unfortunately, I couldn’t pass them. The strict drawdown rules in those firms heavily impact your psychology and restrict your trading freedom. Let me explain further:
Even if you have a solid trading strategy, passing a prop firm challenge often depends largely on market conditions rather than skill alone. From my experience, whenever I started trading to pass a challenge, the market often moved against me right from the beginning. That quick 5% drawdown instantly weakened my psychology. Reducing the position size to protect the account then made the recovery process painfully slow. Eventually, frustration built up, patience was lost, and the maximum drawdown was hit.

Even if you somehow manage to pass a challenge, the drawdown trap continues — especially when you try to withdraw your profit share. It always feels like trading under pressure.
