That's a fair point, about the nature of political leaders, and I don't disagree. Authoritarians are self-interested. But you're making my argument for me while missing the actual concept of a multi-polar world.

You're thinking in terms of a 'single boat' that everyone is trying to captain. That's the old unipolar model, where the UK was was the default captain and then the US. The entire point of multi-polarity is that other powers are building their own boats.

They aren't all fighting for control of the USS Global Economy. China is building its Belt and Road boat. The SCO and BRICS+ are building a consortium of boats tied together with trade agreements in energy, minerals, and security. They're creating their own financial systems (like CIPS as an alternative to SWIFT) and their own reserve currencies.

This isn't about Kumbaya. It's the opposite. It's a cold, hard calculation of self-interest. It's in China's interest to have a stable Russia as a resource partner and a strategic counterweight to the West. It's in India's interest to buy Russian oil at a discount to fuel its own growth, even while being wary of China. It's in Saudi Arabia's interest to join BRICS to diversify its alliances beyond the US.

Do Putin and Xi trust each other? I very much doubt it. They're pragmatic rivals. But their shared interest in dismantling American hegemony, and creating a system where they are less vulnerable to US sanctions, is a powerful motivator for cooperation. It's an alliance of convenience, not affection—which are often the most durable kind in geopolitics.

The boat isn't getting smaller. The map is just getting bigger, and America is no longer the only cartographer. The troubling part isn't that they all want to be supreme leader—it's that the West's strategy of isolating them has only pushed them closer together into a competing bloc that is increasingly immune to USA pressure. Ignoring that reality, or just calling them scumbags, is a just a strategy for decline.

1: Yeas Russian played a decisive role in defeating the Nazis, but it wasn't alone defeating them.

Nuclear war is not inevitable and diplomacy may someday work. Russia wants surrender and thinks it will win, why would it negotiate. It wants land and a weak Ukraine, not possible. Every Russian weapon destroyed and Russian soldier killed means they will never be powerful enough to take on NATO. Ukraine is the front line against Russia you just haven't realized it yet. Sometimes you have to let someone smash their head against the wall until they realize it wasn't such a good idea.

Ukraine should have been and shoud be given enough long range missiles in order to be able to destroy russian oil producing facilities and terminals. This would have brought Putin to negotiation table long time ago. Big mistake from Biden and Trump. No oil to sell, no fuel domestically would have ended the war.

Hopefully Ukraine will now be able to produce enough long range missiles in order to do this in the future. For exampe the oil terminals near St. Petersburg have now been shut down for several days after a drone attack. There are also alredy fuel shortages inside Russia.

This is all smoke and mirrors. And I'm not a supporter of either side, in this NATO Vs Russia war. But Putin has the upper hand. SCO have established trade agreements, tying up energy, water, rare earths, food and commodities for decades to come. America needs to focus on cooperating in this new multi-polar world, and ditch this violent bipolar geo-politics.

The real concern, with the Global South becoming more profitable and more powerful, America and its allies will become increasingly more desperate - as Bibi and Volodymyr are showing. And history has taught us how that turns out. During the cold war, we were minutes away from one fat thumb press destroying life on earth as we know it.

If you follow any sort of sport you should know that everyone always tries their best to knock the champs of their perch. And they generally do bring their absolute best game - which is what makes sport so great. Contenders have to "bring it" if they think that they're even 1/2 a chance of winning.

No difference here really. This is all about champ status,,, which the USA has held,,, for sometime now.
