Forex Appears to be a Dying Market for Retail

Forex is becoming more and more unattractive, especially with Trump's loud mouth, which has a tendency to bring chaos into the markets. If you are lucky, you can get one decent trade a week in Forex. It's sad to see what has become of this market. But let's be honest, cryptocurrencies will eventually change everything. Yes, the financial system is in the process of changing, and this is one of the biggest reasons why it is becoming more and more difficult for retail traders to find success in making a living from trading Forex.

While Trump's influence can stir volatility, Mean-Reversion strategies thrive in such conditions, capitalizing on overreactions.
We see consistent opportunities in Forex, not just one trade a week.

Crypto’s rise is notable, but Forex remains robust for disciplined traders using reversion tactics to exploit market corrections.

I am not sure how you define a decent trade, but I had 11 excellent trades this past week for over 250 pips. Keep in mind that August is historically a slow month, so maybe that helps explain your situation. Best wishes and better trading next week.

This is your perspective and it is valid for yourself and I respect that. I disagree with your generalisation. I do agree with your assertion of Trump's loud mouth
As you have alluded, if your approach/system/trading is not performing in this asset class find an arena where it does ie Crypto etc.
Things will come full circle and FX will suit your game again.

That's impressive. I am assuming you are a scalper? To get that many pips, did you spend a lot of time watching the charts? How many losers did you have?

Quick read of your threads started sounds like the issue you were having with FX existed Pre Trump. Not being a smart arse here just an observation with which I may or may not be correct.

For me forex has been becoming progressively more difficult to trade even pre- Trump.
I see it as increasingly algos/ bots trading on news items that are really just sound bites. Trump has increased economic uncertainty world wide and now provides a sound bite 5 times a day, sometimes tweet 5 is the opposite of tweet 1. Having traded longer term forex charts , sometimes with positions open for weeks, getting 200 pips. I now only look for short term trades sometimes less than an hour long and based on technical analysis. 10 pips is a good trade, 20 is excellent. It is becoming impossible to trade using fundamental and macro analysis unless you have very deep pockets. Yes scalping means more screen time but then with the volatility you can also be in and out quickly. Trading within a range becomes more reliable than a trend. Gold first 3 days last week on m15
BTC and gold for me provide the best opportunity in the shortest time frames. I still have longer term views on USD etc but to get where I think they are going, now involves too many pull backs and too much time = too much risk
Its all just one persons opinion

Shorter time frames for sure. Pip targets are smaller and getting more slippage ( LP appeasement )

Yes, I had 2 loss situations this past week. The first was on Monday in a poorly timed G$ trade, where first entry in this trade lost 21 pips, but the follow up trade resulted in a 21-pip positive trade for a net of zero. The follow-on entry captured 30, so in that mess I netted 30 pips, and it took all day to get them. The second loss was on the $J on Wednesday, where the first trade entry lost 12 pips, but I recovered on the retracement and netted +22, then +30 on the last entry of this trade. Those were my losses in two of the 11 trades. For the week, the G$ netted some very good trades with the trend in the first half of the week, but the $Y was good all week, trading up in the first half of the week, then down the second half of the week. As for chart watching, I am on the charts throughout the day, all week. Not full time, but I turn on the charts on Sunday afternoon, and don't turn them off until Friday. This time of year, I am on Pacific coast time and usually sit down at about 4 AM through 9 or 930 AM, come back around 5 or 6 PM for a look at the charts, and finally check on them at 12 or 1230 AM, but only 2 or 3 time a week (late night reviews are based on FAs). I understand your comment regarding President Trump's impact on the markets, but I like the volatility.

I don’t think forex is dying, it’s just changing. With algos dominating, it feels different, but there’s still plenty of opportunity if you stick to higher timeframes and manage risk properly.

If you couldn't trade before November 2024 I don't know why you would expect to be able to do it now. And that's your problem, not a reflection of the market or retail liquidity.

The problemI actually is trading the news , (certain news), because market participants don't know how to react on news in combination with Trump's announcements. If you just follow a technical approach and only trade your signals in time windows, when neither news nor speaches of "important" persons happen, it makes not much difference.

At the end of 2019, with EU it was a common occurrence to have days with less than 30 pip movement, IIRC one day had a 19 pip range. That felt like a dieing market.

But things bounced back,. You're going to have good years and bad, limit your risk and ride it out. In the same thought you said it was both dieing and you needed deep pockets to survive, these together don't make any sense.

If you want to trade, you have to adapt or fail. You're just having trouble adapting. Personally this has been my best year in the last 3.

Those wars up and down are also affecting negatively.Am telling you.
Look at it now only Cryptos are moving with sense remaining instruments are rubbish

I think there are much better markets than Forex.
If i had to start over again, i would go with stocks (penny, small- and mid-size-cap, gappers) and Options (ODTE etc.).
The risk:reward is so much better and pot. gains can be huge.
