Fixed Bar Interval Trading involves identifying times of day where price is likely to experience range expansion.

Here is the basic template I use that highlights both trading windows and the main time intervals in which I am interested. This is a 60 minute 6J, which is the Japanes Yen futures. It is priced so that it will move similar to the USDJPY pair, but in inverse (USDJPY up, then 6J moves lower, and vice versa). The smaller highlighted areas noted with ✪ are additional fixed intervals in which I am interested.

Same chart only 30 minute bars. This then shows one additional interval range I study, which is the 30 minutes just before the Wall Street bell rings.

Any fixed bar strategy I trade is going to be based on a range that occurs within the pre-opening and opening ranges of each timing window. I'd want to exit any position, win or lose, at the close of each respective timing window.

This chart template is my "laboratory" so to speak. When I find some price behavior on an instrument that I want to back test, I then build a separate template for that particular strategy on that particular instrument. For example, the template I built for the LBR-OR strategy:

This is not complicated. It is simple. It is easy, if you follow the process.

What is not easy is following the process.

Thanks for your insight vidvad. This really interests me and I can see how you can profit by trading this way. You just need to find a way that also fits you. It is a process that you have to stick with until you find a winner. I am still in that process now. But I am gaining a lot of experience trying.

Too be honest I feel finding the right instrument, interval, and money management is the easy part. You've already shown you are capable of doing the most difficult part, which is simply trusting the process and following your plan.

Same with giga.

You see, most of the people who read this thread want to start with the perfect trading plan. That is "putting the cart before the horse." First train yourself to trade a rule based, non-discretionary rule set. Then work on finding the plan for you.

Not many like you guys, but it is the few like you for whom I started this thread. I know bluesteele shares what he does with you guys and other like-minded people in mind.

I 100% believe that you, giga, and Batavia will make it.

I am enjoying your posts Dave and I'm sure many others are too. Even if its the same thing, it helps to show new people there are real traders trading this way ! Sometimes takes seeing a new thing 1000 times before it starts to sink in... many people don't believe you can make money this way and get tricked by gurus offering 6month courses to learn a load of instead. there is such value in this thread I am looking in to how I can save a copy of each page and put it in a pdf or something similar

Hi Dave, lack of support and others contributing can imho mean 2 things.

1. Lack of interest, or
2. An good and proven trading concept which actually has been thought through. And is being followed and successfully tested by traders. Those traders start digging further and working on that very concept, harvesting early successes, while improving their discipline just by repeating the exact same basic steps and trading routine every day.

The plan of this thread is easy yet so difficult for many. Rinse and repeat, 20 times in a row. That’s all . Not more, not less. However, even that seems a heavy task for many. I gave it whirl, with quick and promising results. I don’t say I have it all sorted now. There’s still many things that need work: me, mainly. And that’s exactly why I don’t post everyday anymore. Since I am working on improving what I like to do most: which is trading, and not posting to forums so often these days. Maybe (or hopefully?) that is the case for many here.
