Are there any other Releases like Nonfarm?

I have looked at the back data since 6-4-04 from all of the monthly US and UK news releases that I could get my hands on. From the dates 6-4-04 to 7-06-07(38 total announcements) I noticed that the Non Farm blows every other announcement away when it comes to average pips moved in the first 5-10 minutes after the news is released. I was wondering if any one was aware of any other monthly News Releases(In any Country) that consistantly moves like the Us Non Farm. Thanks for any help you can give.

CPI and PPI but not too often...

Looking at how a country's economy is doing will let you know which economic reports to look out for, right now housing has just as much an effect as non-farm payrolls......IMO.

Canadian Employment Change has had some very nice moves lately, its a monthly report too...

it varies from time to time or more precisely over time.....

Remember its not really the report it self but how much above or below consensus the report comes out of...i.e. how much of an unexpected figure did it come out at...

I think of late the consensus for US reports have been pretty much dead on or pretty close to it so as not to move the market too much....again just my three cents worth!!!!

The Nonfarm report is by far the best report going but there are tons of reports that influence currency pairs. Most of these might only trigger a 40 - 50 pip swing if triggers are hit. It might not seem like a lot but it does add up.

as a side note, this report doesnt really "spike" like the previous 5 can sometimes, but GBP Meeting Minutes can cause some great moves that are easy to trade. you might want to go back over your gbp charts and take a look at these. also, some reports that don't normally produce any real reaction, can make big, extended moves for an intraday or swing trade if the numbers come out really unexpected

NFP had no comparison.

Traders made a living with this once a month trade. You could expect nonfarm to spike for 75 -125 pips easily. Then it would retrace another 60-100 pips (and more) over the next 2-3 hours: guaranteed.

Present Day

NFP is much like any other news announcement. As volatile economic factors continue (e.g., price of oil, "near-prime" mortgage woes, capital's flight to quality and away from high-risk paper, funding moronic wars, etc.) we will see a return to NFP's volatile days, but until then, it's actually quite ordinary rather than extraordinary.

yes, CAD Net Change in Labor, otherwise known as Employment Change.. Ive had very good profits off that trade.. love it..

Dear WCrouch, the Bank of England rate-setting meeting minutes can be very explosive, so too can the BoE rate setting statements; but not always.

When the rate setting catches everyone off-guard, as it has a couple of times this year, that causes quite a stir. However mostly there is little surprise.

The meeting minutes reveal the balance of thinking amongst those in the rate-setting arena. Disaccord in those minutes is a much more powerful force on the market and hence can cause bigger movements. Mostly there is not much variation because the committee members have (amongst themselves) an extensive airing of views and influences before the rate-setting meeting occurs.

This week ahead is the second week of performance reporting by UK banks. So far none of them have hinted at any woes bearing similarity to the US sub-prime issues, in fact most have been at pains to point out that their bad-debt provisions are unchanged. However bankruptcies and home repossessions are on the rise in the UK. If bad-debt provisioning rises much then GBP could be in for a similar pasting to that enjoyed by USD.

I personally think that rate rises have not much further to go in the UK because there is mounting evidence that the brakes are coming on. However the fly in the ointment is the price of oil (and gas), this could stir inflation and make things difficult all around.

Hey MM, nice to see you back. Maybe you never really left; I gave up on the cable thread, which just grew too huge, and that is where I noticed your inspired contributions.

The Japanese Tankan Survey (released in the first month of each quarter) used to be a big source of volatility as well.
Looking forward, I understood that the PBoC was planing on eventually releasing information regarding it's holdings, which (if they do) could be big news,. but I haven't seen anything more on it...
With respect to oil, the US numbers on oil and gas storage can be significant. Also the releases from the DOE on strategic reserves (http://www.fossil.energy.gov/programs/reserves/ ) as well as buyig pattrns - for example, IIRC, their announcement this spring that they had ceased buying (due to high oil prices) was partly responsible for the end of the nice run we had in USD/CAD (they tend to buy to refill after the end of the winter heating season)
