Strategy coded, testing on US500, DAW JONES, NASDAQ, DAX, EURUSD, XAUUSD....
Will check on several starting bars instead of just the default one to find the best suitable bar to make the range.
Will try different stop loss locations aswell as different RR ratios for the TP/SL.

Backtesting process initiated...

First Optimization finished, backtest from 2008 to current day, ticks of course for best precision.
The ONLY combination that survived on US500 (SPX) is: 10:05-10:10 (5m cande), max positions per day "1", wait for trigger candle to close out of the candle box, SL multiplier 1.5 (range of the bar x 1.5), RR for the TP 2.25 (so when you win, you win 2.25 times the stop loss).

As you can see there're 4663 positions for the test, long winrate = 32.87%, short winrate = 30.51% (you can check it in the screenshots).

Again, is the only combination that survives the detailed backtest, however it has a, 81%+ DRAWDOWN on account, the curve is terrible.

Testing against XAUUSD now...

Second backtesting against XAU/USD, this one needs a bigger SL and different hour, backtest is from 2000 to current day.
Seems that the 1 trade per day rule is a must on this system.
Also 8 combinations survived, i'll post the best, so it seems to work with GOLD better than USD500.
Starting hour 9:00 (so 9:05-9:10 candle), 1 position per day, SL multiplier 1.75 (range of tthe bar x 1.75), RR for the TP is 3, so when you win, you win 3, and when you lose, you lose 1.

As you can see there're 1358 positions for the test, long winrate = 25.74%, short winrate = 27.51% (you can check it in the screenshots).

As you can see in the curve it starts nice, but then it drops to -60% account (drawdown)...

Testing against EUR/USD now...

This is a result of 1280 possible combinations of bar times, day position amount, different SL and TPs.

I was hoping he'd get the hint, but trading attracts a bunch of narcissitic ego-maniacs (whihc is why so many fail while pretending publicly to be trading champions).

I hate to do it. I want to follow rocky's example. But I can only follow it so far. The number of people willing to use the threads of others to launch their own quest for a following is stupefying. When I realized my approach to rocky's method was diverging significantly from his, I took it to a separate thread.

I see he only joined FF 24 hours ago, and has already made himself a nuisance.

People really should be restricted from posting anything at FF until they've been here at least a week. Preferably a month.

DAX: 1 long, closed BE+. I should have set multiple target orders to take partial profit. DAX alone in the last 3 months still resulted in +5,3% account growth.

US500: long, partial profit. I should have move to BE after taking partial profit.
Crude: long, losing trade. *update* second trade long, winner ( last print screen)
Gold: long, win some, lost more

SP500 ( and Nas) did well on "Mebob", better than last couple of days?
Edit: Just noticed the ORB on both would have workrd today. Happened to coincide with my higher time frame H/Lows

Played with multiple targets, and moving SL to BE when first target was hit. Netted about 300 pips.

Hi Everyone, I just found the thread today and loving what I am reading, thank you vidvad!

Batavia, if you don't mind me asking, I see you are on the same timezone as I am plus you are trading DAX, just like I do.

So the question is, on DAX which candle are you taking as ORB? I tried experimenting with the 9:00 CET 5min candle of DAX in recent weeks but it didn't seem that profitable. However, I saw you are really profitable on DAX and was wondering how you are trading it. Also, I saw that you are not necessarily taking every ORB breakout?

Also, with Gold and Oil, which candles are you taking as ORB and are you following the same style of trading as with DAX/US500?

Keep in mind that Mebob and ORB's are two different types of "fixed bar strategies."

Also keep in mind that there are 78 M5 bars, 26 M15 bars, and 13 M30 bars during the NYSE session alone. Almost any one of those bars can serve a s a reference bar around which one can trade.

Then there are the premarket trades. Might the M30 that closes at 9:00 AM be worth attention? Maybe, maybe not. How about the M15 that closes at 8:30 AM? A bit more of a crapshoot many days as that bar closes as major news is often released.

The point is that a fixed bar method that fits one's instruments and trading window likely exists for most every one.

The purpose of the Mebob trade is to train one to follow a trading plan without fail, win or lose, and to stick with it through a series if losing trades if such were to occur. The Mebob, imo, is meant as an exercise in execution and discipline.

However, fixed bar methods in general, imo, are superior to most other squiggly line type indicator methods, even though I am myself a veteran of many squiggly line based trading set ups.

Glad to have you here. Asking how others are doing it is a logical start. However, exploring your instrument(s) and your timing window is what will more likely lead you to your own personal "Aha!"

Another thought is that many are stuck on the SP500, gold, oil, and the DAX. Those are all great trading markets.

But don't forget that for us small retail types, the YM (DOW30) and NQ (US100) are also good traders. Blue I believe trades cattle futures using an ORB set up (I may be mistaken).

How about this one: Buy the bull breakout only (i.e. "long only") of the first M15 MES/ES bar that closes green at 10 AM or after. Can you work out a money management regiment that allows you to capture a positive edge overall?

How about this one: If price is trading at or near its high of day at 1PM Eastern, sell the close or the bear breakout of the first red bar close after 1 PM.
However, if price is trading at or near its low of day at that time, then buy the close or the bull breakout of the first green bar close at or after 1PM. Is there anything to that? Maybe, maybe not. You have to check it out.

The benefit to fixed bar and reversal bar trading is that it puts you in the market based on what price is doing now, rather than what price was doing 5 or 8 or 50 bars ago as is the case with most indicator based systems.

Lots of possible edges to explore with respect to fixed bar methods.
