Dislikedi have dow charts next to my gbp/jpy i can post them every little while.
the thing is though, that dow only runs 9-5 est. gbp/jpy runs 24/5, so the time scales get a bit screwed up on charts.
I have attached the weekly charts for gbp/jpy and dow jones side by side, the timescale is fine for these.Ignored
DislikedI never followed the dow on my GJ trading before.. but you have made me realize thats another indicator we have to look out for.. do you know where I can find dow live charts so I can post the screen shots every half an hour or so... on this thread.Ignored
DislikedI'm tempted to do a correlation coefficient between the dow and GJ, as I am sure that it is close to 1 (perfect correlation).Ignored

Dislikedi'm working on that right now, will post the results when i get them. here is a 5M chart from earlier today, shows even smaller timeframes have such a closer correlation.
EDIT: Also you can see how the time scales at the bottom get screwed up, since dow is only open 8 hours a day versus 24 hours a day of gbp/jpy

DislikedAre you finding that the DOW is a good leading indicator for the GBP/JPY or is it all happening at the same time?

Dislikedso based on my calculations (which hopefully are done correctly)
the correlations between gbp/jpy and dow jones are as follows
for the past year
august 4, 2007 to august 7/2007 the correlation is 0.991177
for the past six months the correlation is 0.979473
so clearly over the long term the relationship between these two is undeniable. now to figure out how to use it to our advantageIgnored
DislikedWhere are you getting the raw data, and what time period for the data? To determine if you have the dow as a leading indicator, you we need very short-term data points for both.Ignored
DislikedAus,
I was wondeing,so when we have a retracement the 1H is the best indication right, but if the 4H turns into the same directon as the retraceing 1H,then we have a change of the trend?Ignored
