China has pushed back once again to U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff policies by hiking its levies on U.S. imports to more than 80%. China’s Office of the Tariff Commission of the State Council said that tariffs on U.S. goods will rise to 84% from 34% starting on April 10, according to a translation of the announcement. This comes after the latest U.S. tariff hike — which brings levies on Chinese goods to more than 100% — took effect at the start of April 9. Tariffs are how we create good paying US jobs, return manufacturing to America (especially critical items like pharmaceuticals and chips), slow/end inflation, create a level global playing field for currencies and trade, and end income taxes to create an external source of income and assets. Why would any US informed educated citizen be against any of that? At least trying it. The quality of life in the USA has significantly deteriorated in the last 25 years: time to try something different and tariffs are a play from our historical playbook that built wealth and created the original industrial revolution and technical innovation. The status quo is no longer acceptable. Time for a systemic transformation in the government sector.

I don't think many USA supporters understands the magnitude of this. Tariff war with China is not a winning battle for the US. Even if the Tariff on chinese products are high, the world does not circulate around USA. China still have many other nations to cooperation with, just need to re-alocate focus.
Anyhow, this is not good for China, the US or any other countries. History repeats, Tariff wars are historical events.

I am surprised this news did not cause another leg down in US equities. Price action today suggests the tariff drama is priced into stocks and the SnP 4800-5000 level is a near term bottom. Risk is to the upside and every little "we made a deal!" announcement from Trump will be a seed for a rally. Consequences of a trade war between all major world econ powers will be dire, but that'll play out over time. Stocks are entering earnings season with the big banks coming first on Friday, culminating at the end of the month with the megacap techs. Forward guidance from the latter is likely to be very cloudy. However, after a 25% drop in the last month, the Nas100 really wants to bounce. Bounce could be extreme if there is any good news on the trade war front. Big news really in the last day is the apparent liquidity crunch in USTs. More panic in the bond market will sink stocks as everyone just retreats into cash. The latter a serious risk to any rally action....
