Trading competition strategy

Hi everyone, I'm going to join my first trading competition, the strategy that I have does work on a 1Hour timeframe and I usually risk 1% of my capital, but I was wondering, do I really have to risk 1% on a tournoment? I doubt it really, so I was wondering how much u guys suggest? 3%? 5% 10%?

Best Whises for your competetion. And based the rules and regulations of the tournament you fix the strategy. There are 100 ways to lose but for win only few ways.

A competition like this doesn't measure the best in the long term, it only measures trades. So if you don't leverage yourself you have no chance of winning. The luck factor is also very important in this type of competition, you get a well-leveraged entry in the news and you win. You would never do this in a real market if you know what you're doing.

Don't play fair for a start

Enter under 10 different emails

Place maximum lot size with different pairs on each account

Soon see if the claim that your strategy does works is true

Never know, only need one to to win

so far I've only tried to avoid trading during or even before the news, may you explain how can I find out whether the upcoming news will spike the price up or down?

Since the goal is to maximize returns in a short period, many traders take on higher risk than their usual strategy. However, going too aggressive (e.g., 10% per trade) can wipe you out quickly if the market turns against you.

A balanced approach would be adjusting your risk based on the competition format. If it’s a short-term event, you might consider 3-5% per trade, ensuring you stay in the game while allowing for strong compounding. If the competition lasts longer, a more conservative 2-3% might be better.

Also, keep an eye on the leaderboard—if others are taking huge risks and succeeding, you may need to adjust accordingly. But remember, risk management is key—no competition is worth blowing up your account!

Start with 3%-5% risk, stay disciplined with your strategy, and if you catch momentum — then consider increasing risk. The key in tournaments like Tradeiators is to survive long enough to capitalize on your edge when the opportunity comes.

Perhaps a relevant question is, how much do you normally risk on your everyday trading? Is it the same for every strategy?
Do you increment/decrement the risk depending on the trading results?
