Hi Everyone,
I am starting this thread to build a database of genuine trading ideas that work on a regular basis.
Why you may ask.
My wife has started showing an interest in the markets after we invested some funds into gold and it has gone up nearly 14% in two months.
As she is new to trading, this thread will help her find her feet, hopefully
Everyone is welcome to post as long as the idea put forward will assist in the growth of a trader.
I encourage you to post anything for discussion that you feel it will add value.
Trading is such a difficult thing to grasp and if myself and others can help each other why not.
This thread is not for confrontation over each of our different views, as I have said if you don't like a post or find it not beneficial you can scroll on.
Also you can PM and I will look at it to see if it needs to be here.
If you have an idea please post details and an accompanying chart / document.
This is not just my thread it is everyone's.
I will post some examples shortly.
I would like to add, if I have posted anything that you feel is copyright let me know and it will be removed.

Inside Bar or Multiple Inside Bars.
I have found that when accompanied by support or resistance they can be a good place to enter a trade.
I use the body of the candles as the Inside Bar / Candle.
They can be used on all time frames.

Switching from FX to Indices/Stocks


Personally, I think the first step is moving away from Forex. There’s just no real reason to trade it anymore—volatility has been steadily declining year after year, to the point where most daily charts look like a mess.
The easiest way for traders to make money is by following the trend, and I’d bet 99% of traders would agree with that. So why trade Forex, which is inherently rangebound? And even more so in the past few years.
I love Forex—it’s where I started. But these days, I barely even look at it.
Just compare FX pairs to indices or individual stocks. Trading is already tough enough; don’t make it harder by focusing on an instrument that just doesn’t move well.

Trade on higher timeframes
In general, the higher the timeframe, the easier it is to stay profitable. Most traders don’t fail because they’re bad at reading price action (unless they’re total beginners). They fail because they can’t stick to their best setups, constantly tweak their strategy after a loss, chase trades out of FOMO, over-risk, and the list goes on.

The real challenge in trading isn’t just technical—it’s mental. That’s what causes people to blow their accounts or end up in deep drawdowns that take months to recover from (if they even can). Trading higher timeframes reduces that mental stress, which is huge for long-term profitability.
Sure, there are a few rare individuals who can make it as scalpers or day traders, but they’re the exception. Over 90% of traders fail to be consistently profitable, and the lower the timeframe, the worse those odds get.
Of course, most people reading this will think, “Nah, I’m different—I’ll be the one who makes it as a day trader.”

You can have a list of Stocks which you check every Day right before the close once to see whether there is a Setup or not.. and then just hold for 2-8R.

.... or you can stare at the 15min Chart for 8hours a day just to potentially end up negative for the Day.

... Most choose the 2nd option... as that tickles the dopamine level more..

Dont get me wrong... I am also guilty of Daytrading.. but my Swing Account size is a lot larger than for daytrading.

This is a splended idea. I have seen this approach before, wher the thread quickly turns out be about only one idea and that is a shame. So let this threat become "the many ideas thread" and if you want to go into depth with an idea, then make a thread of your own.

Let me share this idea. Sorry not tested, I just find it very interesting. I found it on Youtube, most of things on youtube is crab, but here and there somebody stumble over something interesting. And this one is easy to understand and use as well.

Indicators:
ZigZag(6-5-3) Repaints, more on that below.
EMA34 and 100
CCI14

Se the picture. In a downtrend defined by the ZigZag, you suddently experience a Higher High (HH). Theory says, that now the downtrend has ended. But if price then turns south again and it passes the last Lower Low (LL), then the downtrend is intact.

The EMA's are confluences. It is important, that the ZigZag HH did not exceed the EMA100. A wick is ok, but not a close. On the other hand the ZigZag must exceed EMA34. Now we have the ZigZag in the butterwhole between EMA34 and EMA100. If it then continue the trend direction, we have found a reverse and bounce from the EMA100.

So when price goes below LL, then there is basis for a trade. The signal is when CCI has been above 100 and goes below 0. The below 0 is the signal for a short. This is a strong signal.

I believe RRW on 1:2 would be nice.

To me it is always important to follow the trend on higher timeframes. Never trade against those trends.

I found this strategy this thursday and have not tested it yet, but it will be a coming project when I find the time.

I must say, that I have that thought too. I just am a bit lazy and have to many interesting projects about Forex for the time being. But maybe I should investigate the stock market now.

You say that it is better to trade the daily. But if you get a clear signal of direction of the next daily bar, then there is many nice trades to catch on lower timeframes. You just need to have a trust worthy signal on HTF.

I use same strategy - trade move away from horizontal level, zone to the next.
Also what I have noticed ( also visible on your chart ) - when move is strong, all we get is 1 candle pullbacks.

3 long setups marked.

Sure! That works.

Based on my experience though... specially in Trading.. less is often more. The more Trades you take, the easier it is to make mistakes, you might also MISS the Setup because you are either not on PC or the Trade simply just "ran away" and didnt give you the chance to enter.
Also using lower timeframes for Entries means usually you go for a tighter Stoploss.. which increases the chance of losing too.

Most fall into that "trap" of trying to get "better" Entries on the lower timeframes.
More often than not, its just the wrong mindset. More Trades means more money. Usually it goes the opposite.

This is closely connected to how we got taught from our Parents and at School. You must work hard to make money.
This translates then to "I must trade a lot to make a lot", "I have to work hard to earn my money".
This interestingly often is very deeply integrated into our subconscious minds.

You have to EARN the Money by working hard, if you are just looking at the Charts each Day for 5minutes to take a Trade on the Daily timeframe.. how can that work???? I am not even doing anything?

So we go down to lower timeframes, because there it feels a lot more deserving when we win our Trades.

Again.. this is just my view.

Great thread!

I've found the opposite to be true in my experience with trading. The lower the time frame, and the more volatile the market, the easier it is to make money.

I tend to believe the market is mostly random, and the longer you're in it, the more random the outcome can be.

Miniminzg market exposure all the way down to a few seconds can help alleviate some of that chaotic randomness.

Watching real time orders hit the market, observing liquidity pools, and monitoring the dom can all play a role in getting on the right side of a trade, albeit for a very short amount of time.

If you can count this method is super simple

I would set the swing file % line to the market swings you want to trade and it becomes very easy to see

BREAK of the #2 = trade, stop just behind the #3

RH = mini 123, same principle, break the RH = trade

Swing LOW = #1, Higher High = #2, Pull back towards #1 but higher LOW = #3 = Break of 2 = go long

Swing HIGH = #1, Lower Low = #2, pullback towards #1 but Lower HIGH = #3 = Break of 2 = go short

Hello. I have been trying to learn forex for about a year now. Anyone heard of the golden cross and death cross strategy? It seems like this strategy works well in a trending market, but I struggle to make this work in a sideways moving market. Does anyone else use this strategy?

Just my opinion of course.
Based on situations where market price can move via incoming liquidity, OR, because of a lack of liquidity, then
a traders’ / markets’ assumption that something will or should happen pricewise at a cross of a 5 hour ema and a 21 hour sma is maybe speculative to say the least.

Maybe it is best to just first watch & wait to see what happens near or around OR AT your crosses before making any actual trade entry. That is, once you have a confirmation that your cross has attracted enough other trader’s interest then the market may move pricewise in your preferred direction (or not).

Relaxing just a little might work or help rather than (like many of us) getting all trade excited
when a possible trade (for you, potential cross is imminent) and just wait till you/we can see an actual definite market reaction at your crosses.
