Trump says a minerals deal with Ukraine is worth billions. It might not be as valuable as he hopes

Too many ppl just take things at face value and bash Trump administration for its supposedly greedy business-like nature handling Ukraine's issue. But they failed to see the deeper objective of a mineral deal.

The deeper objective of the deal is to provide Ukraine a valuable bargaining chip at the negotiating table with Russia. The key to securing a lasting peace deal with Russia lies in who can last longer or believe they can last longer in this resource draining long drawn out war. Russia is quite obviously at the brink of collapse if they need to 'borrow' ammo and soldiers from a much poorer and depleted North Korea. By securing a mineral deal with Ukraine, Trump is sending a message to Putin that Ukraine's war resources is now sustained by its mineral deal and as far as Trump administration is concerned, he will supply Ukraine what Ukraine need for as long as the mineral deal is still around.

In a nutshell, Trump is sending a clear message to Putin that now Ukraine has unlimited _SUSTAINABLE_ supply of war resources from US for the foreseeable near and far future back by the mineral deal. IF Putin want to play longer, bring it on, and see who can last longer, Ukraine or Russia. This mineral deal is the bargaining chip that Trump has gifted to Ukraine to bring to the negotiation table.

Now Ukraine can face Putin with confidence knowing that they can opt to fight on for as long as Russia choose to fight on. Depletion of war resource will no longer be a constraint for Ukraine but rather a valuable bargaining chip against Russia who are burdened with such concerns. THAT is the deeper meaning and objective behind the mineral deal.

There are many other friendly countries who are eager to supply US with rare earth mineral for profit. Ukraine is in fact the worse place on earth now to mine those minerals as a significant portion of the mineral lies in current Russia occupied eastern Ukraine. And needless to say, these places are heavily planted with LOTS AND LOTS of land mine by the Russian which make earth mining a dangerous business. IF Trump want those rare earth mineral, Ukraine should be the last choice if purely going by business commercial profit motive. But Trump put Ukraine as his first choice to seal a mineral deal. Why? Because he want to create a sustainable way to supply Ukraine with unlimited supply of war resource. A very very valuable bargaining chip at the negotiation table.

Pathetic, a country that is supposed to stand for freedom and they stoop to bargaining like this. Full kick them when their down mode. No honor in this administration, just greed.

BTW, if you have not already know, this mineral deals with US is originally proposed by Ukraine themselves as part of the peace package they presented last year to the world. Trump did not initiate this deal as it is not the best place and deal to get those needed rare earth mineral.

Ukraine desperately want the deal with US to bind US interest with Ukraine. Trump can easily look away and ignore the deal but choose instead to go quarrel with Ukraine over the finer deal details thus risking getting bashed and accused of mercerary motive.

Without this deal, there is no way Putin will believe Ukraine will get unlimited war resource. Putin already calculated (and he is right) that NATO/EU will be divided with aiding Ukraine for the longer term as part of his risk assessment before starting the invasion plus he got assurance from CCP that CCP will back him up longer than EU/NATO will back Ukraine (remember he flew to Beijing for the winter olympic game to meet Xi and start the invasion barely days after the game ended).

With this deal signed, there is no more shadow of doubts for Putin. A very clear message is sent. No more guessing and hence bargaining on this issue.

From what I know from other sources, the valuation of current Ukraine's mineral deal is based on geo-survey done in USSR era (before it breaks apart during Reagan's president term). So there is a huge doubt on whether it is worth that much and this article precisely address this point rightfully.

If I had known this fact and doubts from open sources, you think Trump don't know at all? IF Trump is just going for money motive, you think he will just jump in signing the deal without doing due diligence independent survey beforehand? The main objective is not in the money though it helps a lot. The main objective is to secure a lasting peace deal for Ukraine.

The other telltale sign that Trump is not totally in the deal for the money or even the rare earth mineral is when he accept Ukraine's deal but not Russia's deal. Russia has offered rare earth mineral deal to US in response to Ukraine's proposal including those minerals in eastern Ukraine currently under Russia's control.

There is almost zero risk opting for Russia's deal as Russia can definitely supply what US needs within Russia territory and eastern Ukraine if Russia continue to maintain control over it. But Trump opt for Ukraine's deal taking a huge risk not being able to assess up to 60% of Ukraine's mineral resource currently in eastern Ukraine if Russia do not return those territory.

From a pure business profit sense, Russia deal is risk free and assured. Trump should accept Russia deal and ditch Ukraine's deal. But Trump did the direct opposite. What does that tell you? For the money? For the mineral resources?
