Whatever it looks and appears to me, the gap has been filled, reaction to that gap and the Fb channel on M1 provide some additional insights.
Another 4 shorts covered just above mS1, not a very large position, but some good points. DOW moves fast and points add rather quickly!

Yes, it moves fast and unlike NASDAQ I think it does not make any sense to wait for a big runner. I had three very nice entries today but failed to close them in time. I get the feeling with DOW you should just close it for a good profit and wait for the next entry because the trends are just so volatile.

Yes, grab what you can when profits are there, M1 is good for scalping, when scalping is done correctly, the profits are substantial.

Yes, and when I look at my journal this is really what is hurting my trading. I think if I just closed all the + 1.5 - 2 R trades, the record would be totally different. It amazes me how you can be pretty disciplined in life in general and still mess up with such simple things.

It has been well proven to be the case.
Trading belongs to a new department of self management, and risk management. The subject has been described in many books. what you described is more common than uncommon. Accountants, computer engineers, medical doctors and many other people while successful in what that are doing or have been doing, when they become retail traders have to learn new skills in self management and risk management versus emotions and crazy groundless hopes, of which there are many.
Apply the lesson you have learned so far, and continue to perfect it.
Best wishes to you and to others on the way to become continually profitable while being able to retain these hard earned profits.

I have chosen to fade this move down shortly after the session open, went long , up to the gaps, and got out at fib RET 50 just in case.
Intersession gap has been closed, D pivot might be the next target, and of course the last session close, would be a cherry on the top.
M30 looks like the move up is slowing ready for rotation, I am flat at the moment.
Have missed the move down due to the data release, and I usually do not chase the market.
Still feeling under the weather, so having a light trading day.

It worked quite well although there is big SR there at the lows. I just dont want to chase after longs when bigger frames show otherwise, although I step lightly. later on there were opportunities for long and short

Absolutely, there were opportunities both ways, the way I use session bars and gaps make it automatically for me to fade that move south.
I have not established market orders before the data release, although I have these case I have has the levels well displayed, buffer zones from the last session close. (bracketed white numbers). Once the move had taken place, have waited for the session open. Mr chairman(FOMC) also testified today, yesterday he was not hawkish, and it could have been argued that he would likewise not be very hawkish today, as if has been the case. So the marked reacted.
When I see an opening with a gap or gaps, naturally I think to find the reason as to why these gaps should not be filled or partially filled like today. These gaps have a very high statistically confirmed probability to be filled. That is the positive side of such a subjective bias, the negative side is that I find it easer to ignore signs of good opportunities to trade the other way, though not always. I have severe limitations, and in a sense I am nor a purist scalper, and I am aware and conscious about it.
Have posted few charts on the journal with my reasoning for taking the long trades, it is always risky, but there were good details that made me taking longs.
Over all, I have taken it a bit easier today, but nevertheless a good day.
