Apart from the fact that not a single one of them has any edge at all, on any pair, in any year, when you backtest them!!

In the past 2 years, I have set up about 40 "systems" like him. If I look, I can know which indicator to use?
Learning should be humble and continue... Downgrading his ideas doesn't make me any better.

This idea of Jamesagnew on this thread is not all nonesense. For scalpers, they will tell you that EMA 10 is a very powerful tool. It is one of the reliable instruments that helps a scalper to book an entry and also to exit at the quickest time possible

It doesn’t, but pointing out that they’re all total garbage saves a large number of other members from wasting their time looking at them. Hence all the very relevant and sensible comments from so many other members on the previous page.

I don't spend much time in the systems section of FF but its a Saturday and your thread was linked on the FF homepage so here I am. From reading the replies to your thread you seem to have a history here lol.

I would have scrolled by without saying a word but I have to say some of the FF Vigilantes have taken a step too far in their treatment of you, at least with respect to this thread.

What you shared is, in your own words, "a method you've been testing." Why would anyone here have an issue with someone sharing a trading method? I don't know the answer to that myself but I've seen it enough in many other systems threads to know I'll never post a systems thread here at FF.

Anyhow, here is what I'd like to add: Your method as posted here is a good start and could very well be the spark that gets some few would-be traders thinking. In the end, what system anyone chooses really doesn't matter. They are all good, and they are all garbage.

Without posting anything other than an entry, without any mention of stop loss placement, take profit placement, and trade management, you've not posted system. You've posted, at best a hypothesis that needs more work to become testable.

I don't think your thread is a waste of time. If I did, I would not have posted because my own personal rule that I try (mostly successfully) is I won't post anything anywhere to FF that is negative and is meant for no other purpose than to elevate me and put down someone else. So, please, do not take this post as a negative. Your thread is worthwhile. But you did not yet post a method nor a system. You posted an observation that has the potential to form a testable hypothesis.

Now, what do you propose for money management? Where would you place your initial stop loss? Would you trail the stop or let the trade work out, either hitting the stop or the take profit? What do you propose for a take profit?

As with any method or system here at FF, this method 100% can yield a consistent profit on which one can depend and it is also utter and complete garbage.

The difference between a method with an edge and a method that is garbage is in the execution. You tell people "buy when the green candle closes above the 10 ema." Great!

Now what? I'm long the EURUSD based on your "method." What do I do now?

You see, you can't possibly be testing a method if you have no parameters to test. And if this is how you've been sharing your methods at FF that is why you are getting garbage responses instead of useful participation from other FF members.

I like the combination of OHLC bars with Heikan Ashi candles. Using an MA of some sort can be a good sorting tool. But how do you make money and mitigate risk with these tools? You see, you've not shared a method. You've shared an observation that may serve as the basis, eventually, for a hypothesis. You're asking someone to write and EA for you? How is anyone supposed to do that? Unless you intent this to be an "always in" method where you are long above the MA and short below the MA. But you didn't say that. If you want your systems threads to have a positive outcome you have to bring a more fully developed hypothesis to the table.

If you are here to learn and develop, then I'd suggest you move your thread to the journals section, start doing the real work, and maybe you'll attract one or two or even a small handful of traders who, seeing your effort and the potential, will join you.

I don't mean any of the above as an insult or as destructive criticism. I'm trying to pint to you the reason why some are justifiably seeing little to no value in your threads and what you need to do to correct the faults causing you to receive such poor reception from the FF community at large.

And never forget what you learned here today. When it comes to trading systems, they are all good, and they are all garbage. What makes a method good is the addition of trading rules that mitigate risk and define profit objectives. What makes any method garbage is the absence of such measurable parameters.

an indicatir would be good with alert when the candle closes past the 10 ema and previous candles high low

maybe a pair scanner to give entry signals

take profit of 40 and a stop of 20

entry is simple

candle must close past the 10 ema and previous candles high or low at the same time

stop loss 20 and 40 target

its easy

a currency scanner would be good for alerting trades

James, there are VERY many comments in all the responses you’ve so far had, above, which would actually help you enormously if you paid attention to them.

Especially in vidvad’s long, supremely tactful and highly helpful post just above, which you haven't even acknowledged!!

The main point: if you carry on doing what you’re doing now, not only will you continue to irritate and annoy every other member here, but you’ll also remain non-profitable, as a trader, until you either give up or have a very Major Strategic Rethink about how you should try to learn.

That’s because unlike some other members who have posted here, you haven’t even backtested it!

One of them even told you that the SMA-10 backtests better (loses less!!) - and you’re not even interested enough to ask why?

I don't understand this. Sorry! But if it closes above the previous candle's high, then doesn't it have to be a green one, by definition? A green one has a higher close than its open, surely? And with Heikin Ashi candles, its open is at the midpoint of the previous candle's body? So if it closes above the high of that previous one, how could it not be green?



Same question, really: I don't understand how it could not be red?



This is what's confused me, a bit. It looks like 2 in a row, to me. What are you "testing" with the third criterion you listed, please, James? Or alternatively, what did I misunderstand? Apology for my confusion, but can you clarify this, please? I am asking not to criticize but because it looks nice and easy to try, but want to make sure I didn't misunderstand some important part, before I start.
