Hi, what news services do you use, which would you recommend?
Please post both free & paid services. Also, comments on each of them are welcome.

Reuters is easy to work with. But lags on AUD announcements.

Bloomberg is good across the board, but really expensive.

I have not seen anything that compares to either of these.

I heard that TTN was going to get a news pipe but i dont know how fast they are.

and there is also dataprod which is still in the devolopment stage.

In a world where speed is king, I would say that having both reuters and bloomberg is a must for doing any kind of news signal trading. you have to get teh announcement at the same time as all the big players do in order to be effictive. something that is even 1 second behind can cause you to miss an oppourtunity. I found that out yesterday on the AUD PPI.

You can get by with TTN if youre with a retail broker. If your on an ECN, TTN is like oanda news in speed..lol

yea speed is important but so is execution......no amount of speed will help if u broker doesn't fill u.....

These three are News services .. They give you a software that can get the news at the same time it comes out or even 1-2 seconds before it does , and it clicks the Buy or Sell order in ur platform before the news Spike happens in the market .. So you can get the whole spike before the jump happen .

Not to rehash what everyone has said. I have been using Trade The News for a few months and have no complaints with speed or accuracy. They have a 30 day free trial.... try it out for yourself.

If you use the following link from Tom Yeomans web page, TTN will knock $20.00 a month off.... better than a kick in the butt.

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to comment yet due to new-people rules (if not please delete), but I love TTN and I've been using them for some time now. The service is effective, and I like the guys on the news desk. Try the free trial and see if you like it. That's the best way to see if it is fast enough for you. Take care.

Personally, I adore Bloomberg

I tried Trade the news free trial but I saw the price move before they gave out the numbers more often than not.. Much to late to trade the spike. Mindaugas.. how much is the bloomberg terminal? Last I heard it was $1600/mth

I have a membership of Newsstrike (may be spelt with one s only).It took about 2 weeks to come through. To be honest I avoid the news like hell and just wait for a top or bottom to form after spikes and try to get in based on the formation of a top or bottom after the news. I miss out on some pips, but for me I prefer to be safer than sorry and I never got filled on time and this can be not good. However, the service newstrike is very good, only it is stock market orientated. You get the major US and other announcements, such as some GBP, CAD ones and it is sharp on the whistle (ie the time the announcement is released). With one click brokering, who knows you might get filled if you're lucky and have a system of rules for degree of difference from forecasted result and your target in that case. My rule is do not trade the news because, until I have got an institutional account, I just can not rely on getting filled for the relatively small positions I enter the market with.

Another service which offers a trial is of course tradethenews.com. I found it extremely echoey, so unless you know what you're listening for exactly, again you may find yourself wanting. Hope that helps.

i use ff and newsnow to get the news (i don't try to beat the news-spikes)

For almost all major headlines, the AFX newsfeed available on another ccy site (GVI) - they come up within a minute of the release, and several minutes before here. The GVI Pro forum probably has the best/fastest background news. OTOH, they both cost money (but it usually pays for itself pretty quickly). AFX is low on CAD info, but that's easily available from StatCan (I keep The Daily bookmarked). Other than that, the FT, the Economist, WSJ, and Bloomberg's suffice. Dealbreaker and FiNTAG can also be quite useful for a an alternate view.

Spike trading is a nonsense. It comes from the days when Felix was popular because he was publicising a good way of ripping off OANDA. If you think you can "spike trade" using an ECN/STP broker then you have no idea how interbank pricing works. You think the biggest, smartest banks in the world are going to hand out free money to anyone who subscribes to Bloomberg, Reuters or one of these silly news trading services?
