Edit: No gap in the underlying market itself. I can't tell you how this works. I am new to it myself.

Why there is no gap in the index itself? My other broker told me they will debit/credit the P/L manually for the dividend but there is no gap in their price feed that you could trade. I also can’t see any gap with Oanda, FXCM and any other broker i looked at. Maybe exclusively to IG? Why they do this?

Once you been trading it for long enough you will understand it better. i always add soon as it drops then keep adding, but i think you should maybe only add 2 positions while practising it for 3 or 4mnths.

PS, write every dividend trade down so you have a note of them all.... then just count your money up every quarter


Anyway need to go sleep. gimme a call if it fills today. these bigger Divs can take till next day but its doing not too bad so far -- only 10points away

So lets say you bought ftse @£1 and it drops 20points now your trade is minus £20

Then you add 2 more trades of £1 each ..... one of those positions when it gets back to 8344 is + £10 and your buy b4 the div drop is minus £10 if you want you can close these 2 at effectively breakeven if you want then you still have the other position @ +£10 hope i am explaining well enough

So this trade you are now + £20

I saw the video and she also pointed out:

"remember is that whether you're a long or short you will not be materially gaining or losing when a dividend adjustment is made"

Well, i asked to because you somewhere said:

So for a person who has been doing this for 20 years I thought you knew a little more.

No matter why IG always shows a gap. So it makes no sense to buy before the close/gap as this will only be offset in the P/L anyway. Nothing but a wash. If you then buy and in the event the gap closes you make a profit like any other 'Buy Low Sell Higher trade'.

I got a reply from my broker. If you keep an open position during the server break, adjustments will be made to your account.

Looks like only IG has a gap. At my broker, the price did not drop even by 1 point.
Dividends are paid if you keep the position open while the server rests.

Price action is the same after dividend, gap or no gap. Which means you don't need gap to make money.
