Multiple pairs in one chart

In Metatrader, is it possible to monitor, say 3 or 4 pairs (with different colored lines) in the same chart, so that one can see where they cross each other, diverge, etc.

I have an idea,

Use a http://www.martinutils.com/gd01hjkl/setup.exe to add transparency to your windows then start two instances of metatrader.

to get 2 instances try starting them as fast as possible or install two differnt brokerage versions

Interesting idea. Would the following work.

Create a MA indicator and use 1 for the MA time period - that should give actual price.

I know the iMA does have an entry for Symbol. I don't know exactly how to do it but seems to me logically that this might work.

Folks, get setup with www.fxsol.com. Their AccuCharts has everything you are talking about.

Here is a screen capture of CHF, EUR and GBP / JPY pairs.

NetDania charts also can overlay a couple, though it isn't as intense or flexible as AccuCharts.

i ever demo ing GFT and it can layering 2 pair into 1 chart, ... ... guess it count

this can be done on accucharts, bloomberg, esignal and the others listed by other posters in this thread. i've used the aformentioned software and i'm still looking for what is right. when you look at crosses on an overlay chart you have to consider that equations might be different between software providers meaning on one chart we see a cross but on another chart we see no cross. your intent is in the right place. we are concerned here with correlation and cointegration of pairs. all the majors are related by the USD therefore they are all partially correlated and indeed cointegrated.
you should be able to get accucharts free from fxsol.

Assuming I understand what you're asking, plotting indicators of different timeframes in the same chart window can be done using the #MTF indicator suite (see attached ZIP file below).

Plotting multiple currency pairs in the same chart window could also be achieved in MT4, but it would require some programming. Presumably the prices would need to be scaled in some way, e.g. the value of GBPUSD = 1.98 while USDJPY = 121.95.

The historical data for each chart is stored in a path/file something like
c:\Program Files\MetaTrader 4\history\MVP-Demo Accounts\EURUSD60.hst
(where EURUSD60.hst represents the 1 hour chart for the Euro). The file format is as follows:

So the new indicator would need to use the FileOpen and FileRead statements to get the data for the appropriate pair/timeframe (i.e. .hst file) and then plot it on the chart as either a double histogram (if candles are desired, see the HeikenAshi indicator in the ZIP as an example) or a line (if only the Close price is desired).

On the "netdania" charts on DailyFX, you can overlay pairs. The charts are web based, so an installation is not required. It's pretty cool.

The chart will open, then click on Instrument, select another pair, then be sure Overlay is selected. Both pairs will display as long as they're the same timeframe.

I went through a couple hundred indicators to find this.
it will post all the usd pairs on one chart but it takes processor power so be patient please. also turn on chart shift to see the pair identifiers.
the only issue i have with this is your backtests really mean nothing because it plots a zero point/starting point for calculations at the edge of the screen or however far back you specify in the settings. this is arbitrary and we need to find a place that works. believe me hedge funds are using something like this because when you see EURUSD at the very top for example and you see USDCHF at the very bottom it is a high percentage move that they will begin their retracement. It seems there is a large system out there calculating values against all pairs and when the rubber band is stretched too far it brings them back. we all know currencies have daily bands that CB's allow them to trade within. how do we exploit it?

I stand corrected. The all_usd_pair indicator uses a much simpler way of achieving this: the ArrayCopy Series function.

It seems that the colors on the chart represent the following currencies:
Brown – EURUSD
Red – GBPUSD
Green – AUDUSD
Blue – USDCHF
Magenta – USDJPY
Tan – USDCAD


I expect that this is because scaling is needed, for the reason described in my previous post:
Hence the starting point from which the scaling is based is necessarily arbitrary. The indicator could be modified to have all scaled prices converge to the same point at the hard right edge, but I'm not sure that this would solve the problem.

I totally agree. I trade the EURUSD USDCHF cross on all time frames with great results.. If I was able to somehow time the retracement it would be priceless. I think you are on to something... the wheels are turning.
