Another suggestion don't know if anyone will find it useful but I use it all the time.
Instead of the standard RSI I use the StepRSI, it runs a lot smoother and gets rid of a lot of the whippy crosses when the market is flat and the RSI is playing around the 50 level.
Where the standard RSI jumps in and out of 50 the StepRSI just flat lines.
The other thing I do which may help some people is I use a 2 point buffer on the RSI, so instead of taking crosses of 50 I take crosses of 48 / 52, again just helps keeping us out of some false moves, but is small enough not to compromise the good signals.
