i ,ve been trading forex for about a year , i learned a lot but i came to the conclusion that i need a MENTOR bad. any one please HELP....

Note that I haven't posted in awhile. That's what people usually do when they're not making money! The system that worked in April crashed in May. I'm still switching timeframes, trying to trade longer term, like Jacko. As much as I'd love to trade that way, I can't seem to make it work.

Note how the words came out "make it work". You can't force it. You can't fight the market. I need to learn how to take my profits as they come to me.

It takes time for a person to find their own system. It has to fit. At that point it will be profitable, simple, and boring. My mentor said it took him a couple years. Spud said it took him a couple years. That seems to be the number that comes up from time to time, a couple years. Most give up before then.

I use and would recommend Removed Straightened out my trading so that I am now consistantly profitable. Wayne does a free NFP webinar over on FX Street each month, that would give you a chance to check out his style and see if it might help you.

Hey Flak,
The conclusion required is that a Mentor decides you need one.
And any prospective Mentor is not going to accept the project based on the "because you say so" concept.
No PM's please at this time.

What, exactly, have you tried so far?
And I mean Exactly.

One Year in this Market is just about enough to get the tips of your toenails wet.

There's a Long Row To Hoe before you will aquire your wings. The toughest part of your venture is immediatly ahead.

1) is your Family life Stable?
2) are you a good student? {I don't mean do you learn fast}
3) do you have the resources to cover your apprenticeship?
4) Are You Willing To Admit You Were Wrong?

Please understand that I am not applying for the job, but, {for those in the know} since Mike hooked up with DS, there seems to me to have been an upsurge in the "Ooo Ooo Me Too" mentality.

Y'know what, buying a lottery ticket may have better odds.

Bottom Line:
DS = Benvolent Leader
MB = Deserved Protoge.

Seems like a person would benefit most
from such a relationship if they were already
pretty much on track and were ready to
go from the minors to the big league.
May sound like a catch 22, I know!

My mentor appeared when I least expected it, nor was I looking for him. Yet, I recognized the opportunity when it presented itself. I've mentored a few people myself, but I've been asked many times. It's pretty easy to know who to mentor and who not to mentor by having a conversation or two. You've got to do a lot of preparation first, that's for sure.

The thing in any teaching situation is appreciating what a pupil doesn't understand. This may sound obvious, but there are times when even a very basic concept (that is second nature to the teacher) is beyond the comprehension of a pupil. Most of the first few lessons I gave, as a driving instructor, were spent in a stationary car. I wasn't prepared to risk my life until I was sure that the pupil had some idea of how a car functioned. They didn't need to be mechanically astute, but to have at least some idea of what was going on beneath the hood.
As a learner, you should, at least, take the time to get the core concepts of what drives the markets, and there are plenty of places on the Web that will guide you in this. Take time out to demo for at least a few months to get a feel for how irrational the market can appear at times. Find ONE method that seems to have a strong following here, and get to know it inside out. Then start with a small amount of money in a micro account to develop your psychological attitude.

I have had some great mentors here, Jim, Dial, Fiji and Dopey, amongst others, who have all, in one way or another, guided me to where I am today.
I'm actually at that stage where I feel I could use a mentor, having found a way to make money consistently in a micro account, but am not sure what I need to do to get to that next level and become a 'proper' trader.
When you are at that stage too, that might be the time to come back and ask for a mentor.

Perhaps I should get off my high-horse and read the posts I respond to more carefully.
Maybe you are at that stage where, like me, you need that extra boost. I hope you find your mentor and some day you'll come back and help the rest of us move up a gear.

i traded a demo acc for over 1 1/2 year before i even thoght of opening a live one , and tried all kinds of method in terms of tecnicals and fundamentals, after a year of live trading i,ved l;ost some pips and i Gain some, but thats not what i am looking for. i wanna ecome good at it not because of the money only, but because of my self, my family and gol winner... hey thanks for the reply..

i started on forex back in dec 2005 and everything that i could put my hands on in terms of books and information i did. i traded on a demo acc for 1 1/2 year at cms-fx. i learned how the japanese K S works because that to me was no brainer almost, i tried diferent time frames with diferent Moving Av.. , RSI, Stoch, Histogran etc... and recently i finally learned how to apply Fibb retracemt lines to my trading. so to answer your Q? yes i am a studant and willing to learn , Y? because i wanna become the best trader i can be, second i don't know exactly what a stable family means to you, " money wise or what" and yes to a point i cand fund my education road, and yes i,ve been wrong several times in my life and i have no problem admiting that i was once again.

The best mentor is not the one who knows most but the one who is most capable of reducing knowledge to that simple compound of the obvious and wonderful way for his/her student to learn.

You are right Forexnuts,


But there are some people who are doing it for reasons other than contributing to the forum. They have personal reasons in acting like that, probably the number of posts counts, which they think will give them some sort of authority in the eye of a newbie.
