these consolidation/correction chops (december-february on cable, anyone?) are really ugly...I hope at least AUDUSD and NZDUSD will see you some follow through on this one (should, if 0.8230 goes for good in AUDUSD).
I just wanted to ask whether you looked at / read about them Pin Bars at all and checked them out on one of your favorite pairs yet

And, I see you still keep the GU position opens, and you hedge that position. The running price for GU is now 1.9779. You have one long position at 1.9855 (If i am not wrong) and one short position at 1.9790( If i am not wrong). Why do you open two different position? Do you predict that GU will go down alot?And I think if one of them follows the price, another position will suffer great losses.
For example, if the price goes to 1.9746 (yesterday plus 10 pips low), the 1.9790-position will get +56 but the long position (1.9855) will suffer -111 pips, and you still get -55.

I find it interesting that most of the people trying to tell you what to do don’t have a journal of their own. Most are missing the big picture here … You are trying to learn about your trading system and most importantly you are learning about yourself. I say keeping learning and protect your capital while doing it.

I believe it all comes down to what your objective is for your first year as a trader.
The fact that you've been learning for free without damaging your initial capital already is very successful. This is good.
Nevertheless, almost all the profits you've made at the initial stage of your journey have been churned out by the recent poor performance. This is bad and you can't overlook it.
It really depends on how you want to proceed and move from here. The strategy you've been using from the very beginning certainly proved to be really good when markets are trendy, but not good enough to keep the earnings intact when markets are rangebound.
The only fact that you gave back most of your profits must make you think. And you better think a lot if you want to develop a more consistent strategy.
Even if the remainder of the months from now on turn out to be ok, there still is a bad stretch of consistent losing trades that kind of puts your whole system in jeopardy.
If I were you, that would be more than enough for me to take a break and review things without wasting time. I personally couldn't accept to live with a strategy that runs my P&L up and down like a yo-yo. I prefer slow and consistent rather than quick and unstable.
However, if you think that eventually things may work out and you can live with those wild swings in your account balance, then you should continue.
It all depends on what your ultimate goals are. There are many different ways you can grow your account, it's up to you to decide what path to take.
Give it some thought during the weekend, it may be a good idea. There is no rush to trade or fear to miss a winning trade. Markets are always going to be open another day.
Just keep in mind that there are many things you've been doing right since you began. If not, you would be losing money at this point. And I mean a lot of money. Try to focus on the good things and engrave them into stone if necessary. The good things are going to be the foundations of your trading.

This time I agree with both of you !!! IS, I think all you say is right on...
Markets don't trend all the time and Steve's system is a trend following system... I have always thought Steve should have two systems to trade !!! One for the trending times, and one for the choppy times... just switch from one to the other when necessary.
I think Steve should finish his year on this system... that he can do this and keep a journal here for a full year is astounding !!! I know he also sees the way things are going and is trying other things and ways to be better... I am sure steve has one of the most looked at threads here in these forums, and he deserves it !!!

) but I think I've learned some important lessons this week. More experienced traders than myself have noted that the past month or two have been difficult for them too trading off the daily's so at least that gives me some heart that I'm not a complete duffer
