if you trade the same thing all the time (me - SPX, SPY, XPS, RUT, IWM = 99% of what I do), you start to notice things. It's not rocket science.
Most of the action in SPX occurs in the first 60-120 minutes and the last 60-120. Not always, but pretty often, or usually. Also, you'll note that frequently, there's a lot of action overnight, so you get these $20, $50, or $80+ gaps at the open. Useful information, especially if you are fond of trying to leg into spreads.
Different days of the week have their tendencies. And different days of the month also, relative to monthly opex's....
