A Buy Setup is complete when a series of 9 consecutive bars, with the close of each price bar being less than the close 4 price bars earlier, has developed. Setups can extend past the minimum requirement, but 9 is all that is needed to proceed to the next phase.
DeMark gives only 1 qualifier for using Setup as part of initiating a trade. The 1 qualifier, for a Buy Setup, is that the low of the 7 th, 8 th or 9 th price bar in the Setup be below the low of the 6 th price bar.

DeMark states his findings are that within 4 bars following the 9 count, the market should experience some sort of price reversal or at least consolidation.

When a Setup completes the 9 th bar, the 2 nd phase is in effect. Of the 2 methods for the 2 nd phase, Countdown and Combo

The criteria for Combo count is initiated with bar 1 in the Setup. Unlike Setup, Combo bars do not have to be consecutive bars. In the template provided, the Combo counts are only shown on the chart starting at bar 9 of setups because until the 13 th bar is completed for Combo, the count is only applicable to the last Setup on the chart. If a Sell Setup occurs before completion of the Buy Combo 13 count, it is voided.

The close of the current price bar must be less than or equal to the low 2 price bars earlier.
The low of the current price bar must be less than the previous bar’s low.
The close of each Combo count must be less than the previous Combo count’s close except for bar 1 in the Combo count which starts with the 1 st 2 requirements.

Alternative for bar’s 11, 12 & 13
The recommended alternative requirement for bars 11, 12 & 13 is that upon completion of the Buy Combo 10 count bar all that is necessary to obtain the last 3 counts (11, 12 & 13) is to have a closing price that is lower than the close of the previous Combo Count bar’s close.

Note: the following relates to the TDST of a Buy Setup only – reverse applies to Sell Setup TDST
A Buy TDST line is formed at the highest true high of the Buy Setup phase and becomes a resistance level regardless of the time frame and extends horizontally remaining valid until exceeded by price to the upside on a bar close basis and on the following price bar’s open.
If price is able to close above the Buy Setup’s TDST level and then open above the level on the next price bar and trade at least 1 tick higher, it indicates sufficient strength that the advance should continue until a Sell Setup is completed (if not already complete) and the move up should proceed through completion of the 13 bar count continuation 2nd phase.

What is TD Sequential?
TD Sequential is a system developed by Tom DeMark to provide quantitative measure of a budding reversal in a trend. It is based on three main concepts: Buy/Sell Setup, which signals at least a partial trend exhaustion, Buy/Sell Setup Perfection, which signals a high likelihood of trend at least stagnating, and Buy/Sell Countdown, which provides an indication that the initial trend's momentum is drained.

TD Sequential Ultimate indicator adds another technique of Tom DeMark's authorship to the mix — TDST Support/Resistance levels. They are based on the Buy/Sell Setup candles and provide, unsurprisingly, powerful levels of support and resistance. Those can be used alone or in combination with the rest of the TD Sequential system.
