Are we not supposed to have an open mind in this business? As they say, trading is 50% mental. And to the extent alcohol helps the mental state of some people, it should be considered.

Regarding coffee... sure, in the mornings, on other occasions. However, when the market goes 2% against you, you will be alert anyway.

Used to do some crazy stoner sessions back in the days with 2 friends, good times.
In my opinion, weed or buzz etc. does not work as you need absolute control of your own mind and the ability to self evaluate on the go.

This past week I was right on many swings
...and lost 40% real money.

First. I got scared out of a stupendous orgasmic position.

Second. I reversed to do me a retr. when move started.

Then. I anticipated the reversal without good reason.

Fucking Today. I fell asleep and woke up countering the move without noticing the signal.

Mind is crucial. It's more about emotional control than anything else.
Even reducing position size will only lull into a false sense of security and reduce the speed of the outcome but not change it. That is my experience.

My issue with trading is purely an emotional one acting subconsciously affecting how I prepare and manage a trade and response to price movement.
Temperance (restraint in action, thought or feeling) is a virtue.

I personally would not recommend drinking at all. When you are drunk, You just lose attention and the ability to focus on important things.

I got half a mind to experiment. What's your take on drunk trading? PS. I got the idea looking at some of your calls.
Ignored
Forex is not so easy for me that I will trade here drunk. Even when I open my laptop, I analyze the market and meditate for a while to keep my mind fresh. I know very well that I have to suffer a lot provided that I make even a small mistake. I never think of experimenting such an idea.

Nothing wrong with a small drink to calm the nerves.
Be humble or be humbled.

I can think a small drink can bring your confidence up, and whether you follow your strategie.
If you are new to trading you can take riskier trades and over leverage.
This is when the keyboards are smashed and questions appear 'why on earth I took that
trade at such risk'?

Not a heavy drinker myself, enjoying a glass of red during weekend. Still if I was, would never loose my focus after a drink, I like to stay in control.

For the full time traders situation might be different, but one got to stick to the plan, otherwise account can be blown in no time.
No judging...everyone is different.

Thanks for the question,

okay, I tried a few times trading when drunk. the results are never good.

From that experience, I learned a lesson... If you want to run forex trading should be aware because it needs clear analysis, considerations in news and technical. If you are drunk, it will pass along with the mind when increasingly high.

trading needs sober and discipline
drink ok, not drunk.

I mean, generally it's a pretty terrible idea.

If it makes you money consistently (consistently being the key word), nobody can tell you you're wrong, then go for it.

What I drink (and eat) makes a difference to my trading.

I wrote a post about it a little while ago, if anyone's interested:

Hahah. I don't even think about it. And I really don't want to check it out. I'd rather keep trading sober. And drink after a good trade.

I've got a couple points to add on this..

Just a bit of background, I've traded algorithmically, manually, and have been/am profitable at both.

First of all I don't condone being drunk while trading..

However, I have traded under the influence of alcohol, weed and even psychedelics (psilocybin).

I see many people saying you need to be ALERTT to trade the markets, but that's not always the best way to go about it. I think you'll find that most successful traders will be alert when picking doing analysis but it's not always the best mindset to have when you have a trades running.

You really need the best of both worlds, be alert, and be chilled. It's hard to be both at the same time. Some amazing traders are constantly under the influence of something but I definitely believe that when making trading a lifelong-ish career you can't rely on anything other than your sober mind to trade the markets, or else it just beings dependency on outside influences when it should really only be your inner self influencing you...

That being said there is something to learn from how you trade in every state of mind you're in, so if you do happen to be drinking etc while trading, maybe try and learn from it rather than trying to take your edge from it lol.

At the end of the day trading should be rule based and no external factors should influence your trading but of course it can be easier said than done sometimes!

Happy trading!

I know that when I was at uni I produced my best work a little under the influence. I get a bit adhd and struggled to concentrate but a few cans to get me almost in a zone used to help me. Not sure I'd test it with trading or that it's thr healtiest way to combat my crap attention span though

Oh Lord I hope you're joking OP.

No, absolutely not, never. Not even if I've had a tiny glass of beer with dinner.

Would you drive drunk? Would you operate a crane drunk?

This means you should give up trading live and trade demo only.
