@AlienDog -- please save us both some time and don't bother. The code for the indicator is very simple. The code iterates from the oldest bar to the newest. OHLC data from more recent bars never touches previously calculated markings. Whatever you are seeing is not repainting. Repainting occurs when newer bars are used to recompute markings for older bars.

The coloured boxes I assume are part of FXVolume? And are static and don't repaint?

Yes, the colored boxes are part of FX Volume. They don't "repaint", but they are "delayed", like fractals. So they can't really be used for Entries, but they might be usable for Exits. I rarely use the FxVolume indicator, but when I do I fiddle with its settings to hide the boxes.

So -- now we have repainting, recalculating and delayed. Try explaining the difference to the non-coders and shallow thinkers...

What you are seeing is the scaling problem I referred to earlier. There are Histogram bars off screen that make the Y-axis too big for the most recent bars. Zoom out so you can see about 200 bars and the graphics will look better.

Also, go to a higher time frame. Look at the price bars in your chart -- they are practically horizontal. The indi needs to see some price differences in order to detect a trend. Your chart shows no trend. I suggested that H1 is the best time frame for the PlanetX indicator because it is intended for swing trading. If you are confused then why not first check the time frame I recommended and go from there. You might then have been able to figure things out on your own.

As an aside, I created this thread under the forum "Platform Tech" since I wanted to focus on the PlanetX indicator. However, an FF admin moved it to "Trading Systems".

I hesitated to get into "Trading Systems" because it draws a different crowd of guys. "Platform Tech" can be more technical because it focuses on the details, which is what I like and which interests me most. "Trading Systems" tends to attract guys who are only interested in using you to make money and if they don't think they can make money or if your Trading System differs from theirs then they are more inclined to trash your sharing.

I understand the first few pages of the thread will be a slog because I have to deal with the shallow thinkers and naysayers, But afterwards it should be smoother sailing when folks like @YoungET and @cpfleger contribute to help us create better tools.

I am not sure why you feel the need to constantly take shots at posters in your thread. Why would the timeframe affect how your indicator paints signals, doesn't the H1 chart have ranging periods as well? While it was nice of you to provide your indicator for free, I was also trying to be nice and hint that your indicator actually does repaint. I watched it repaint live: a bar closed down and the histogram went from above zero to below zero, the next bar closed up and the histogram for both bars 1 and 2 changed from below zero to above zero. I would post another chart but I don't think it would do any good, you are too emotionally invested in defending your indicator. There is a reason that your indictor's signals look almost perfect at times. If that doesn't tell you something, well then good luck to you.

You don't understand -- take a look at his chart. It is horizontal. There is no trend. The indicator can't detect and display a trend when none exists. I keep recommending H1. There's a reason for that. I'm not a psychologist but it is so interesting that even though most traders here would say they desire to improve, when I share a tool that would benefit their trading they are incapable of applying it in the way I recommend. It's so weird. You are more interested in finding ways for it not to work. There must be a word in psychology that describes that phenomenon. Maybe it has something to do with "Holy Grail Syndrome" -- if it's not the HG then it must be useless. I don't know...

@scamMEplease -- in the context of charting data, do you know the difference between recalculation, repainting, delayed computation, rescaling?

I keep saying PlanetX works best for swing trading on H1. So, what do these guys do? They try using it for scalping on M1. Oh well -- I consider this part of my test...

On closer examination, the red/blue boxes drawn by the FxVolume indicator in the main chart do repaint. However, the histogram bars drawn in the subwindow do not.

Trading 101

There is no such thing as candles or bars -- the only data is tick data. Ticks are a change in price sent from your broker to your MT4 terminal software over the Internet. Ticks know nothing about candles or bars. Candles / bars are artificial constructs of accumulated tick data that are created by software (i.e. our trading platform) for our viewing pleasure. That's MT4's main job -- to accumulate in-coming tick data into candles / bars.

A trading platform has to compress tick data into bars because otherwise our charts wouldn't be able to show more than a few minutes of data. Monitors are typically between 1024 to 2048 pixel wide - let's say 1024 pixels wide. If ticks were to arrive at 60 ticks per minute then the most you could see on your monitor would be the most recent 17 minutes of price data. You'd have to scroll hundreds of times to the left to find the day's opening price.

An H1 bar contains 60 more ticks than an M1 bar. So, which bar do you think displays the greatest range in price? H1 -- of course.

PlanetX's algorithm compares prices -- it computes differences, often referred to as delta values in algebra. If the delta values are too small then the program can't resolve a difference. Keep in mind that prices don't differ by large values -- rather, we are dealing with prices that differ at the 4th or 5th decimal place.

I have nothing against scalping on M1. But if that is your preferred trading style then the PlanetX indicator is not for you. It is best used for swing trading on H1 (or higher). If the PlanetX indicator doesn't suit your style of trading then please don't waste your time and mine complaining about it. It won't make any difference or change anything. It's a waste of electrons traveling over the Internet. You're not going to use it and I'm not going to stop using it.
