I hate it when they use Friday night to do their market manipulation. XAUUSD is interesting because this event may push the price up and over that diagonal overhead resistance all the way from $2074 back in August '20 (seem on erap's chart above).

It is unfortunate that the movement depends on what narrative they peddle on the news channels over the weekend - my unscientific estimate is the bullshit will flow thick and fast. I hope all you guys are managing your risk adequately in this new volatility. Be safe.

Yesterday news was a real bummer for me.. I hold many shorts on Gold with decent capital to hold ofcourse. Lets see how it turns out next week.

If we take a look 2 years ago prior to COVID, the attack on a US base in Iran caused gold to spike up very strongly and COVID was basically fuel to fire.

My thoughts are that right now there are no actual attacks happening, it has been only talks and reports. I believe US and Russia respect each other a lot in the sense that because they are such huge super powers, they both fear what they can do to each other, and Russia is probably aware of the implications if it does attack Ukraine, US will definitely not sit back and watch.

Of course, Russia could just ignore that entirely and simply does whatever it wants to do. Russia probably feels very confident having China behind their back and may not be concerned about the US.

I feel that the only way to look at this right now is to buy gold and yen if a war does break loose. But if Russia decides to take another approach and not invade, we may see gold fall. But right now, technical analysis is probably going to be the last thing to use to analyze the markets right now. We can clearly see what happened hours before the markets closed when reports came out. Whether it be market manipulation or actual movements due to the reports, any technical resistance and support levels at this stage are not being properly respected

Edit: Let's not forget that US, EU and UK are probably regions that Russia needs to respect when it comes to economic sanctions. If we do not see any invasion next week with Russia choosing to de-escalate the situation, Gold would most definitely drop next week
A 1 pip gain is better than a 1 pip loss.

the news came in before new york open. it shot up but were quickly brought back down to london low. then it went up during new york session ever since.

as i do not know what will actually happen going forward, i can only speak technically.
it all boil down to how individuals trade gold.
how one manage risk and money management, not forgetting how volatile it is.
it is usual to range up down more than 60 pips. a double edge sword.

for those who put through short with big lot size expecting 2 digits return with no stop loss, it will be in a sorry state now.
on the other hand for those who put through small lot size probably still can hold quite well, going into damage control.
in some way it can be advantageous if one can trade both ways hedging.
if one still trade one way short, it will be prudent to trade discretely making lesser trades.
not to trade it all the way down to london low but to take small profit and find opportunities to short again.
